Popping in for a visit (hopefully)

Good evening, all. I'm looking to relocate from the midwest in the next few months. Portland's worked itself up to the top of my list of candidate geographies (provided I can find a job there), but I'd like to come out and "inspect" the area first. (My move to Phoenix in '00 was done sight-unseen, and, while it worked out well, I think I'd like to plan a little better this time around.)

Are there any MINI club events or general Portland happenings that I should try to hit in May or June? I figure I'll fly in on a Friday and out the following Sunday. I just want to try to do a little sightseeing and familiarize myself with some of the neighborhoods, maybe get a feel for where I'd want to live.

Thanks!

I am sure that you will be welcomed here. I am still waiting on my MINI to arrive by boat to the West Coast but you might check out PDX MINI.ORG and see what their calendar of events shows. I have not yet joined myself...figured I would wait until I can have the entire experience with my own MINI! Enjoy your visit up here!

If you want to go on a fabulous run in Northern CA in June (not too far away from Portland... OR is a small state), consider joining REME on our June 23-25 Trinity Alps-Mount Shasta-Mount Lassen Run. See the Run Flyer for details and to RSVP. This should be one of the larger Pacific Northwest MINI Events in 2006. Members from REME, PDX, SNMC, NorCal, MOASF and possibly SinCity and Idaho MINIs will be joining us on this run. This promises to be an event that you won't want to miss!

Thanks for the info, zeid. I'm going to try to hit up some of the local club forums, as this one seems a little slow. I've also had a recommendation to come visit during the Festival of Roses (or something like that). This run sounds great!

We've got lots of events planned for this summer! Runs, races, track days, and more.

I'll give you the low down in a bit, just as soon as I am not slammed at work. May take a couple hours...

PM me if you like

Website may be a tad behind, but I can fill you in.

I'm not there, yet, Scott! :-) I'll be coming for a visit at some point, but I've got a few other places I want to look at before I make a decision. Oh, and there's the whole job thing, too... ;-)

I second that... Bend and to the south on 97 towards Sunriver is a great area.... I use to eat at Mc Kinsey's Ore House in Bend in the mid 80's when we had a house there. A must place to eat if it still exists. I remember eating at Jake's diner (truck stop) where a slice of cake was a full quarter of it.

If you are looking to relocate to Oregon, Grants Pass is also in a great area.
