My Next Car... Racebike beater.
This is not really MINI talk, but I can assure you, a majority of "Good Car Judgment" people (i.e. us), especially the track people among us, will love this one. It even costs the same as a MINI pretty much.
This is a 48mb download, but well worth it.

I watched this British car talk show called Top Gear-awesome show, i wish we had something like it here-and it had that car on the show. They test prety much every new car on the market and even a few exclusive cars like the enzo and stuff. they run them all on the track and keep a wall with times. Anyway they had this car and the only car it lost to was the enzo. THE ONLY CAR! The host said it was the fastest car hes ever driven. unbelievable. It had a civic type R engine in it i believe and weighs next to nothing. Sooo fast....drool....

That car should be something Lotus is selling us.
I must admit, it is a very appealing car, and I'm a bike guy. In fact, I ran my MSC several times on the track last year and honestly, I find the track to be rather boring on 4 wheels--compared to bikes.
At 500 kilos and 300hp, that's about 4lbs per horsepower, which is monsterous for a car. A new Corvette is between 7.5 and 8 lbs per hp. Needless to say, the acceleration must be breath taking.
There are a few misconceptions in the show, however. First, a powerful, track worthy car will always be as fast, or faster than a bike on most tracks. I was not surprised to see the car beat the bike. No way two wheels can hold the g forces like 4. Next, a 600cc bike is not a "big bike." It is a mid-class machine. A stock Honda 600RR produces about 105hp at the rear wheel. And at approx. 440lbs, is about 4lbs per HP - just about the same as the car.
It is true that it's only a matter of time when you will crash on two wheels, not if. But it is not true that a middle age guy with a little gut looks stupid on a bike. I'm 50 years old, am reasonably fit, and can turn a 2:03 lap time at Thunderhill on my bike.
The car corners and brakes so well because it is very light.
Now, on to which is more exciting. Here's what I ride on the track. A 2004 Yamaha R1, one liter engine size, weighs approx 440lbs wet, Yamaha claims 180 hp at the crank (brake hp) with ram air. More like 160 rear wheel HP with an after market exhaust and EFI tweaks. That puts my track bike at 2.75lbs per horse power, or 2.4lbs if calc'd from the brake hp.
When I started riding this bike last year, I was actually afraid to use full throttle all the way to redline. I don't fear it now but I respect it. If you really wonder which might be more exciting, imagine being on this bike under full throttle, in 4th gear at 140 mph with the front end so light that it's barely touching the ground, the front wheel is wobbling enough that you wonder if it might toss you on the ground. And you still have two gears to go?
I rest my case.
Needless to say. I'd buy that car in a heartbeat if it were street-legal in California!

I am with you Monkey Boy. Given the choice of a bike or car on a track I would definitely go for the bike. There is just something so much more thrilling about the connection between the rider and the bike. Hanging off through the turns is just such a rush.
For sure, CJ.
There is nothing like dragging a knee at 100mph plus. Something about being intimately involved in the whole process and experience.
Don't get me wrong. Driving a car on the track is fun. But it's pretty mild stuff after riding a bike at speed on a track.
