MINI gone: ordered an RS60 Spyder
MINI gone: ordered an RS60 Spyder
I sold that gorgeous Pepper White S convertible late last year in prep for moving to just 1 very special car... (also have the 07 335i Coupe)
And I've found it!!
This is a spectacular special edition Boxster S- Porsche is making just 1960 of these worldwide and less than 800 are destined for the US.
The whole car is either Porsche GT silver or Carrera red leather with a red top, it's got 303hp, a 6spd manual, sport exhaust, and the active suspension management that lowers the car 15mm, plus giant 19" sport design wheels. It's hot!!
The only drawback is I'll have to wait waaaayy longer than I ever did for a MINI- 6 months aaargghh!! It won't arrive until July
The BMW will go as a trade in...
What do you think: a worthy MINI successor?

the payoff is about equal with the kbb.com "good" condition trade-in value... which is actually seldom used (they use a black book value that's closer to wholesale in the states, based on current auction values)... but it's still a sought after car here and I'm a low mileage driver (I just hit 7k tonight, and the car is exactly 1 year old) + I take impeccable care of it
so 5 more lease payments and my payoff will be an easy wash, just as if I had turned it in to the dealer (It's only a 24 month lease anyway)
My Porsche payment will actually be less than I was paying when I had both the MCSC and the bimmer, and I won't be paying double insurance like I was when I had 2 cars.
I think this is a better choice than the M roadster I was originally planning on.

That is my favorite color combo but it has to be on the right car and that is the right car!
Looks like a blast and the best thing about it (and all Porsche's) is exotic performance in a car you can live with as a daily driver, that's engineering.

Once upon a time I drove a tri-color (mostly primer) '69 Beetle with Flintstone floorboards (I mean genuine plywood covering 16" square rusted out holes)...
This car was conveniently equipped with a dead flat windscreen: this enabled the driver to easily scrape the ice off of the inside of the glass while driving, an action that must be repeated every 10 minutes or so.
With this level of expertise under my belt, I'm confident I could handle a Boxster in the snow...

Incidentally, (in that very car) on one late afternoon in the early fall, (many years ago) my accomplice and I were headed out to a kool and groovy concert up at Willam and Mary Hall, not long after a heavy rain. After leaving his apartment in Ghent in Norfolk, we set out and subsequently hit an extended puddle of standing water no more than 2-3" deep at speed...
Of course the water caught the edge of the Flintstone floorboards, flipped them up, and a significant wave of water hit us on the inside of the car: such that when we stopped at the next traffic light, we were both totally drenched with the windows still rolled up. I can still picture the laughter from the car next to us....
