Zip them up and create a torrent for the file. Share the torrent and then as others DL the file they can share it out. There are also many free hosting sites like:

Note that, unless Mikey has changed it, this kit does NOT work very well with the Nuvi. I have it. The problem is that the kit was designed for units with an external SPEAKER output, not a HEADPHONE output like the Nuvi. The level coming out of the Nuvi isn't high enough to even trigger the circuit that "cuts over" the audio on the right channel, unless you set the Nuvi volume to max - and then it cuts over, but it's not even close to loud enough to be heard. I worked around this by adding a boostaroo between the Nuvi and the kit, but even that isn't really loud enough. Mikey needs to build one with a different switching circuit or different sensitivity for units with headphone level outputs...

I use it with the aux output extensively with mp3s and a 4GB SD card - that works very well (though the voice level can still be a little quiet compared to the mp3 playback level). But I wish Mikey's kit worked well, because it would be great to have that capability for all sources including radio.

Thanks for that bit of info, Blimey. I've been planning on getting one of those kits and building a mixer so that I can run (at a minimum) GPS and FRS audio through it. Guess I'll have to boost the levels as part of that circuit...

OK, here is the link for the SRF files. MINI SRF vehicle files for Garmin NUVI. Remember to thank NOR_CAL_MINI for being nice enough to provide them.

Glad I could post them. The splash screen is also on the international MINI site. It's in the downloads section under mobile devices or something like that. They car colors are a little limited but the fact that i can have a MINI on teh screen is good enough for me.

It's fairly simple, Plug in the Nuvi using the USB cable and Windows will map a drive letter (as a removeable drive) to the contents of your Nuvi. There's a Garmin\Vehicles folder for the srf files.

I saw one installed on a R56 at a launch party. Sweet install. But since I live in NYC, I wouldn't go that route. Since the mount is in plain view, that's pretty much a open invite for thieves to break into your car to see if you stashed the nav in the glovebox.

I had a friend break who's car was broken into b/c he left a ipod powercord plugged in.

So, is there a different MINI specific mount released or not? If so, I'd like to see some pictures, especially if it works in the R53.

Scavenger there are pics ont eh first page of this thread. NOR_CAL_MINI I have a quick question. When you have the unit plugged into the computer can you see the MINI specific POI's? Since I am planning on some traveling, it would be nice to have a quick way to find a dealer if I ever needed one.

Well, good new / bad news. From the pictures in post #16, it looks like the MINI mount for the Nuvi provides the standard Garmin "ball" attachment, so it would be possible to attach a 660 bracket to the MINI mount, but it looks like the ball is too close to the tachometer to allow the 660 to physically fit.

Plus, it doesn't sound like the integration of the GPS with the car's other systems goes beyond a hardwired power lead.

Guess I'll be going with a RAM mount instead.

Was thinking at exactly the same thing...

...yes - the ball mount is fine - and I bet that is a simple cable too. But... Unless the mount pivots somehow - to distance the ball from the tachometer - the ball mount will not fit the 6x0 device.

Thank you for the SRF files. Now - for completeness (yes - WE are greedy) - if you see any fancy-schmancy bitmap files in the Garmin/Pictures directory...

Thank you a lot for your pictures and the SRFs - MMM

I just looked at the pictures of the mount on the first page. In that post was mention of inadequate volume level. Well, if you do a firmware upgrade, the volume has been boosted!

Edit: More questions... Is the bracket reversible so that the Nuvi can be mounted on the right-hand side of the column? Also, will it work with the Chrono Pack - meaning - I have both gauges on the column?

Splash screen

Here's the splash screen I use; it's a 415x368 image I got off the int'l MINI site. It looks like it was meant for the nüvi!

Anyone get the new portable NAV?-mini.jpg

I'm pretty impressed with the MINI vehicle icons; I've got the BRG one with the Union Jack roof set up on my nüvi. I'm kind of disappointed they don't have a CR/B one, though!

Nor_Cal_Mini,

Thanks again for posting the files. Is there more than one MINI splash screen included? If so, can you post those files as well. Much appreciated.

Yes, the files would be...

First - thank you again for the SRFs. They work great - and there is even a silver MINI that is similar with mine!

There might be 2 files of interest:

- the splash screen (yes - I made one too - but the original might be bigger/better/faster/more...)
- the Custom Points of Interest (also in the Garmin folder there is a custom POI subdirectory. Should be a small file - few Ks or so I suspect - with the MINI/BMW dealerships).

Again - thanks a lot for the SRFs and for the images...

MMM

Thanks for the info and photos, Nor_Cal_Mini. I hate the square peg / round hole look of the factory nav, so I'm thrilled to see there's a dealer option with a cleaner look (in my opinion, at least). I called my dealer this afternoon about having the portable nav installed.
