I see this as a great alternative position when you need to be able to quickly glance at the NAV and still have a minimal amount of windshield obstructed.

Anyone out there with some stamping equipment and skills want to work with me to build such a beast?

Crude example...

Another possiblilty would be fashioning a simple bracket to attach a RAM mount ball to, which would stick out on one side of the tach or the other. Then one could attach a RAM arm of the length of one's choosing and position it accordingly. The RAM bases are configured to attach to the Pro-Clip Garmin adapter. I may try to come up with something along these lines. I have a Garmin Zumo which is a little to big to see through the steering wheel, so I would prefer to have it up and at the 1-2 o'clock position.

Sounds interesting. Got a link to the example of the ram ball mount you are speaking of? I tried to trackit down but ram-mount.com has a million options.

Be sure to take some images of whatever you come up with!

There are a million options no question, the mount I was talking about is just a one inch ball that is threaded to accept a 10mm bolt and then attach that to a homemade bracket of some sort. However, there are so many options on the Ram site I'm going to investigate further some way of attaching to the back of the tach, as I had not considered it before. I'll let you know what I come up with, and I will try to take some pics of my current RAM setup off the passenger seat to floor bolt using a ram flex arm.

This is a good page with mounting options.

i'll keep you posted

What I'd like to see is something that would work with the receiver mount that comes with the Nuvi and that would allow it to still articulate on the ball of the mount.

Well if you get it done, I'll take one. I'm looking for something in black that attaches to the back of the tach and sits just above and behind the steering wheel.

Tom, don't waste your time...

...I did waste mine already. There is a long thread somewhere about the nuvi/GPS mounts, and teh best I found (I have the same setup - R56/nuvi660) is - unfortunately the most expensive - teh Kuda mount. See a thread below this - there is someone with a beautiful Kuda mount - it is leather and molded fro teh edge between the speedometer and the dashboard. It is teh same leather as teh one on the steering wheel - so it fits quite nicely. The nuvi is at arm's reach with minimal body movement while driving (don't do it, kids!).

The downside is the price. It is about 95$.

But look at the pictures first...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=99523

...and then argue about the price.

The Garmin dashboard mount is 40$. The mini Garmin mount is 175$ (and doesn't accomodate the 6xx series). So - it is... worth it.

That Kuda one looks good, but from what I understand, one of the benefits of the Mini mount (or at least having the dealer install it) is that the power gets hardwired to the car. Is that easily done with the Kuda mount?

The part number is 65 90 0 429 400.

What I want to know is, does that include the Nuvi? The description from Classic leads me to believe it does. If so, that's not a TERRIBLE price for it. Of course, they'll want another $500 to install it but I can do that myself.

I'd rather have a 680 though. That's what keeps me from ordering it.

Thanks Z-Mini.
I've e-mailed Classic to ask for their price/delivery. I wonder if anyone has some sense for whats involved in the installation ?
The nuvi 360s seem to go for around $420-$450 from what I've seen so far so buying the nuvi + kit from MINI would be on the pricey side, especially if Classic comes up with a decent price. The install could be problematic though.

Jayson at Classic has quoted a NAM price of $140 for the R50/R52/R53 kit without the nuvi.

Copy the splashscreen files into the JPEG folder on the Nuvi when it is connected to a computer. More information -->http://www.iniw.net/2007/04/29/nuvi-...-youification/

I know it was asked earlier in the thread by someone with a PW MCS, but did anyone figure out how to make a custom icon featuring their own car?

BTW, thanks to all who helped for posting the links for the splash and MINI icons!

There's a decompiler for the vehicle files; it's posted in the nüvi forum on gpspassion.com.

I'd like to know if anyone has installed one of these yet. I actually was fortunate enough to win one of these Mini kits at a Mini Car Show I went to a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I won the kit for the R56 so the dealer who donated to kit for the raffle is going to exchange it for me.( VERY NICE OF THEM). Anyways, I was looking at the harness that comes on the bracket and it looks pretty simple but no directions as to where the harness gets plugged into. Anyone know where you can get the Mini factory installation instructions or has already done one and took pictures????
Thanks,
Steve

Nuvi mounts

Tom@kartboy.com,

Did you ever get a chance to see if you could make a mount similar to the factory one for mounting a Nuvi to the tach? My wife has a 2006 MC Cabrio and would like to mount her 360 that way. Please PM me if you have any info. Thanks

Thanks for the files, guys! I just put them on my new 680 and everything looks perfect. I wish I was artsy enough to make my own car for it, but whatever, this way in my fantasy world I have a Silk Green MINI instead!

No, I never did get any assistance nor could I make the decompiler work so for the time being I have gone with the standard colors contained in the shared files.

Installation PDF

Anyone know where the installation PDF is for the R50/52/53 models? I am tired of running on battery.

Cheers
