Installed

Very happy with the install, took me around 2.5 hours, but I am slow.

Even with the high cost the Mini kit, I am very happy with the results.

Looks good. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I was wondering why the Nuvi is on the left side where the passenger can't see it? Then it struck me, it's made for a right hand drive car. In a right hand drive car both driver & passenger could see it.

No sorry, I didn't take any pictures during the install. When I was done, I was thinking how I should have taken some pictures. I do recommend, which I didn't do, taking picture of the wiring before you remove the pins.

I was very confused by the install pdf and studied it for around 30 minutes. I spent around 3 hours, but I am very slow. The PDF really does contain everything needed to do the wire hook up, but you wouldn't think so on the first three reads.

Still very happy with the kit.

I will draft a few tips and post them this weekend or feel free to PM me.

Cheers.

To those with the kuda mount:

how did you attach the plastic ball piece to the mount that connects to your dash? Did you have to just screw it on?

I know the installation is pretty straight forward, but their instructions aren't very clear at all.

Yes, you just screw it into te leather using the self-drilling screws. You have to apply a fair bit of pressure when screwing them in, but it will work.

You're right it isn't clear that's what needs to be done, but I checked with Kuda, and that's proper procedure.

They give you 2 sets of screws. 4 self tapers & 4 machine screws with nuts. Either screw it in with the self tapers of bolt it on with the machine screws. I think I'll use those. Then pop the little circular cover on to hide the screws.

Mine goes on this weekend.

Thanks for the clarification meltz&crashton
thats what i thought but just wanted to be sure before i did it

My nuvi is suppose to come tuesday

also i broke 2 drill bits trying to use the regular screws ( i had already gotten the drill out), and then moved onto the self taping screws and those worked so much better.

Anybody received an R53 Kuda dash mount that has a step in the metal prong at the end that's supposed to slip under the air vent on top of the dashboard? This revised model also appears wider (lt to rt, as viewed from the driver 's seat) than those shown in NAM threads. A buddy is trying to install one in his 2005 and I'm expectantly waiting before doing the same in mine.

Thx.

Alan

I ordered two of the Kuda mounts a few months ago, and there was a step in the end that goes under the dash vent. You have to gently pry the dash vent up while you slip/push the metal tab underneath it, but when that "step" engages, you'll feel the mount almost snap into place, and it's *very* secure, considering that there's no hardware involved.

Thanks for the info. It's always better when someone has gone before you to find any pitfalls. Mines sitting in the work bench. Guess I no longer have a reason not to put it in.

How is the visibility to the speedo with your Nuvi in place?

I have a kuda mount and love it. I use it for my Nuvi 660. I origianlly used the windshield mount but didn't like the reach when I needed to input something on it.

I also purchased the wiring harness from NewMiniStuff so the sound outputs from my speakers. It was a little quit it at first but I just turned the volume up on it and the Nuvi and the was resolved.

Currently, the cables from the Nuvi are tucked along the top edge of dask over to behind the tach and go behind the dash there. I want to tuck them under the dash pad but cannot figure how, or if it even possible, to get it off. I have seen instructions for the '02 to '04 MINI's but the airbag is under the passenger side and I did try to do it the way listed but wasn't having any luck.

If anyone knows if this can be easily removed and replaced that would be great. There is a cable access point to the left of the center vent to goes to under the dash and I just want to run my cables there and out next to the mount.

Hunter:

I popped to top of my dash off (with the great help of Jwardell) by removing 2 torx screws that are hidden by pop off panels on each side of the dash. If you open the driver's side door, you should see a small panel cover that you can easily pop off and it should reveal two screws that you need to remove. Do the same on the passenger side, and then with, a bit of effort, you should be able to pop off the top of the dash.

hope this helps.

I have the Chrono Pack where the big speedometer usually goes, but the Nuvi doesn't block any of the gauges, even though I have the Nuvi 660, which is wider than the 350/360 models.

There's also some adjustability during the install, because you can choose where on the Kuda mount to screw the post that the GPS attaches to. I put the post just a little bit higher than center on the mount, and that's worked out well.
