Is there a common or free program I can use to open these up just to see them, or get a screenshot or jpeg so I can post it to my local MINI club website?

 

There are a few ways to get "pictures" of the icons..

1- use the screen shot feature on the Nuvi. See your Nuvi manual for doing this- the steps might be different for your version.. But for mine it is under Tools, Settings, Display, Screenshot, Enable. This puts an icon on the display that you can touch to take a screen shot of what ever is showing.. and it saves it to a special directory on the Nuvi. This might be the fastest & lest computer involved method.

2-Take the srf file to the conversion site and convert to png format.
Then use a free image editor like GIMP to crop from the 72 different views to the one or two that you want.

The person helping me with the server files is trying to do this as part of a new layout for each of the icon files.. But as you can imagine, this will take some time to get setup..

I'm using a Nightfire icon for my wife's Audi, it's about the right color and shape for her wagon, just a bit smaller!

 

Just sent a PM request for a hyper blue (dark blue?), white roof, white stripes.

And just to give back in some small way to the forum, here's a widescreen version of the Mini Splash Screen that comes with the Mini 350.

This fits the widescreen Nuvi models (like the 600 series).

How do I get your spash screen into the Nuvi? Which directory do you put it in to replace the stock screen?

Copy it to your desktop, then hook up your Nuvi with the USB cable. Go to "My computer" and find the Nuvi drive and open it. Look for a folder named JPGs, and copy it to there. Then disconnect your NUVI and turn it on, find the "Change splashsceen" button, scroll for the right one and choose it, bob's yer uncle!

hmm.. I don't have that combination yet.. the black mirrors are the "hard part" since I dont have that with the CR MINI body... Give me a few days to try some things out... might have this figured up by the weekend - no promises :-). When I get it, I will post about it in this thread and upload it to the zipped folder at this site...

If you could do it, I would really appreciate having an icon of an all-BRG with a yellow "lotus" stripe right down the middle of the hood, roof, and hatch. You can see what that looks like in my member gallery picture "Newwheels6"

Just got my NUVI 650 today and first "mod" was downloading my BRG MINI.

To BB: Many, many, MINI thanks for all the time/effort that you've put into this!

And, thanks MINIdave for posting this NAM thread to the local KCminiclub forum.

 

I've got a LY/LY, no Snrf .srf file I created, but I don't have access to the Garmin at the moment. Could someone load them to a Nuvi and see if I got the editing right?

 

How did you create it?? GIMP or PhotoShop??

Sure do.. check out the web site ..here.. and click on... Custom mini zip files..... Black... There you will find a zipped folder of several black mini icons.. Download that zipped file. Inside you will se file names that show black minis with white tops
... with Bonnet stripes
... with sunroof and stripes
... with sunroof and no stripes
