High Pitch Whine from front speakers?

Hi been away for a bit, started my car today and there was a high pitched whine from the front speakers only. That would get louder or softer as I adjusted the volume and was there whether I was on AM, FM, Aux, or CD. When I used the fade function it went away as did the music from the front speakers. No problems before this. I do have the Ice Link setup and did not have my IPOD connected, but that has happened before, any ideas? TIA Michael

There's been a few reports of H/K amplifiers misbehaving when the weather gets cold ... this could be your issue

You may need to clean up the high-frequency interference on the car's 12 v line by installing some capacitor/choke device such as this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dmOcye9....asp?i=003S15A Also making sure that the HK unit in the rear is well grounded as the main wiring harness goes right past it.

I read this and said "HK" too.. Mine did this, well before in completely failed. Did it go away after you completely turned the car off and back on? Wait for more wierd noises (or lack of sound at all) specific to the front or rear. I hope you are still under warranty for a while.

Yes under warranty for another 27000 miles, we have time. I did not turn car completely off though, just the radio but I will try to turn the car off next time too. Thanks.

Check grounds for any/all audio equipment. I owned a car stereo shop and was in the business for 10 years. Bad grounds are the most common reason for the symptoms you described. However, I believe you have an amp giong bad internally.

Well it did not have the whine on the way home. Let's see what tomorrow's cooler morning will hold.

100% agree! I have done this and it works great. I did not use this product though.
I used a 1 Farad cap and it is monted under the bonnet on the passangers side by the anti-lock brake booster.

The cap acts as a huge filter and is powered by the jump post and grounded to a bare spot on the engine bay. This will bleed off the extra current running through the car from the ALT to the battery in the back. Oh and it a nice power boost for you cars electic system.
