quick question on factory HU power

mine's a 03 MCS.

Does all your factory stereo's turn on without the key in the ignition?
i cant remember if it was like this or not in the past...


i just noticed this tonight while i was doing the auto window up.

Yes, definitely true of all stock MINIs I have tried.

Except my MINI with an aftermarket head unit.

not this got me thinking...

perhaps this is why the stock battery drains so fast? it's like the HU
is always on stand-by mode... no?

No. It's just a convenience feature - you can play the stereo for 20 minutes and it will shut off automatically. Doubt it takes much more dark current than saving your radio stations.

Just don't listen for more than a few minutes I killed the battery the other day because I listened to the radio for 2 hours with out running the engine!

With my old Honda and Toyota I could have run the radio all day and still be able to start the car...

I see... yah, my Infinity BassLink turns on when i have the HU
on, so that will drain the power very quickly.

since i had problems programming my auto-up (window) today im
running the charger on there right now at 2A. i must have made
the windows go up and down over 30x lol... ended up outmotoring
had the old instructions...

everything's working now.
