Palm T|X GPS navigation Pack

After a lot of reading on various sites, etc... I finally made the plunge and am getting a Palm T|X with a Palm GPS navigation pack.

Anyone had any experience with this? Good, bad, gotchas, etc... I might want to know about?

It was a toss up decision between a dedicated unit and this but in the end the desire to replace my now incredibly ancient Handspring Visor and getting dual usage won out. Love to hear some opinions.

I also noticed someone did a spray paint can top mod where they could insert it in the front cupholder as a base for instead of suction cup to the window. Seems like a smart idea. Any other ideas along this line for mounting?

I have a TX as well and might pull the trigger soon on the Tom Tom Go software for the TX instead of the Palm Navigator pack. Let us know how it works. Where did you buy it?

Check at the Palm Store..

I just deleted an e-mail that had the TomTom SW with a GPS handheld... So it may be out now.

I have been using mapopolis with palm os for several years now. I have a lifedrive with a globalsat bluetooth gps. I am not very happy with the lifedrive and the hard drive lag. My old T3 is way better. I think I'll keep it as a dedicated palm based nav system.

I am heading to europe in a few weeks and I am bringing the lifedrive and gps with me.

I have a Palm Life Drive with the Palm GPS for it. I love it and don't notice any hard drive lag. I have the maps on an sd card. But a word to the wise ... I went to the Tom Tom site to get any upgrades available to the software and installed the latest they had available. Well after several tech support emails ... the bottom line is to just use the software that comes with the gps. Do not upgrade. Everything works fine but there is a memory leak and the Palm device will require a soft reset about once a week to get things going again. That is only if you upgrade. Stick with orginal software and you should be fine.

I'm an Ebay freak, got it all off Ebay.

I thought about going seperate pieces for the GPS half but the Navigator pack is TomTomGo software and suppsedly the base units features charging for both pieces, etc... seemed like a smart move. I should know by late next week or so.

I have the Palm Navigation on my T5. It's a wonderful pirce of software, and I recommend putting it on a card, as the maps will use up your memory. And I'll also not recommend upgrading on the tomtom site, as I've had the same memory issues. I just haven't gotten around to uninstalling, and reinstalling the original sw.

You can read a review of the older version, here:

Well the T|X arrived today. Wow, what a difference. My last palm which I have been using regularly was a Handspring Visor. This thing is just incredible by comparison. My only concern at this point is that hte screen seems awfully tiny for a GPS unit but we shall see. The GPS portion is due to arrive this week, might have to give it a spin in my truck first to see how I like it.

I'll post up a full review once I've had some time with it. Should be a farily honest review as I'm a total GPS newb.

Well, I have a Tungstun E2 with the Palm nav pack (actually Tom Tom). I upgraded to the new file from the WEB and had nothing but problems with the unit locking up. Finally I found a post that stated the upgrade was actually only for the Treo and not for all handhelds. So, I have just downgraded to the one that I got from Palm. With the downgrade, I get a fatal error when using a purchased voice (John Cleese), but if the unit is stable , that is good enough for me.

Well, no dice still as it locked up everytime it had to recalculate a route. SO, I am going to reload the entire thing to see if that will help. This software has been a bigger pain than it is worth...

Palm GPS pack has arrived. Like an idjit I forgot to get an SD so I ordered one and a reader/writer which should be in today or tomorrow.

The GPS packaging was a little disturbing, no mention of the T|X at all. That gets because if you go on the Palm site they list this model for the T|X. Oh well, hopefully all is well. Right now I'm just debating on whether to order a custom voice for it or not and if so which one.

So far I know not to try and upgrade the software so hopefully I'll have a good experience.

Palm TX is amazing! and that's all i'm going to say for now. Good luck with the GPS...speaking of car solutions for the Palm, i'm looking for a car mount, kinda hard to find for the TX, well something thats not bulky and rattles is what i mean.

yup, coming from a vizor to a T|X is akin to moving from a chevette to a MCS. how do you handle battery power for the palm? do you have a powered cradle to mount in your car?

Check out the Kuda mounts for Mini. http://www.kudausa.com/kuda_mount_an...02-34-314.htmlYou can get a dash mount or pillar mount. I have used it with a palm tungsten t3 and lifedrive and it works well. You might also check out the sunction mount from Palm.
