SIRIUS antenna (use stock antenna?)

Help, please.....I am about to jump in to a head unit upgrade, and need to know if I can use the existing antenna. I want to avoid 2 antennas, at all costs.....

What are my options (they have to be installed by the company I choose to install head unit, JL Stealthbox, and amp)

Thanks in advance.

(have I mentioned, lately, how much I appreciate all the great help this forum provides.....very professional, and helpful....thanks!)

Yup...XM and AM/FM require completely different types of antenna.

Well, you could replace your antenna with the OEM SIRIUS antenna... then at least it would have a stock "look".

Sorry...missing info on my original post.....I do currently have Sirius with the stock H/U.

If I understand you correctly, Edge, you are saying the stock antenna will work, right?

By "stock" if you mean "from the factory", no. But... if you mean "the OEM SIRIUS antenna", then yes I would expect that it works. The main issue I could see you running into is if the OEM SIRIUS antenna is a dual-input design (I think it is), and the new receiver is a single-input design. You would need an adapter to combine the dual-input back to single-input.

Just be careful what you say when you refer to "stock antenna". Since you have SIRIUS installed (most likely by the dealer), then you probably don't have the stock antenna any more, but the "OEM SIRIUS antenna" I mentioned above. It is part of the install when a dealer adds SIRIUS.

I do have the OEM Sirius install. What is the adaptor, and can I provide it to the installer when I get the new head unit, etc.....

Thanks, for your help, I appreciate it.

I'm afraid you're on your own for that one... you may have to do some research to see if somebody makes one.

I have a similar adapter for my setup, but it's the opposite. I have an aftermarket (made by TERK) single-input antenna, connected to the OEM (double-input) receiver, using the adapter they offer. The problem is, the adapter that I have (also TERK - model SIR-SP) has a male connector on the single end, and female connectors on the double end. I'm thinking you will need the exact opposite.
