icelink plus installation

I just picked up an Icelink plus (BMW version) for my 04 MC.

I can't seem to get it installed for a few reasons.
we couldn't find a plug for the CD changer that matched the conversion plug that came with the icelink.

Also the cable isn't long enough to go from the boot to the console where I wanted to install the iPod. I noticed the trunk kit in the manual, but haven't found anything about it on their site.

basically my question is, what is the best way to (ie how do we) install the icelink?

The car was manufactured 12/01/04 so I'm not sure about the HU. (ID3 display was my primary reason for buying the icelink over the factory connector) It does have the RDS functionality to display the radio station name. (not sure if that matters)

You're probably SOL with regards to getting text to display on the HU; I think that's only supported with '05 models built after January.

I've only got experience with installing the version that goes behind the HU in the dash; I don't even know where my CD changer plug is in the trunk. Sorry... Can you post a picture of the plug?

Does the plug on your ice>Link look like the one in the attached image? This is what mine looks like. It plugs in between the car's wiring harness and the head unit. The piece on the right goes into the head unit, replacing the matching plug that's already there. The existing plug goes into the piece shown on the left of my picture. The top plug goes into the ice>Link "wafer".

And therein lies the problem! The kit pants picked up from the store (BB) had been opened at one time and the Interface Cable was missing. We had the ice>Link plus module and the active cradle connector, but not the f'in cable.

The item was swapped out tonight for one with all the parts and should be hooked up in a few days. Thanks for your help.

got the icelink installed today no problems. all it took was getting a kit that had all the parts in it lol.
now it's just a matter of getting ID3 info set up and finding a final mounting solution.

(for the id3 do i need to do a firmware upgrade? or if it doesnt work out of the box it's a matter of my HU not being compatible? as far as that goes I have an 05 HU I can use luckily)

More questions...

I have an 06 MC with Nav but no CD changer. I want to install the Icelink Plus. First, where do I buy it? It looks like Best Buy sells it. Second, I would like to mount it in the CD changer thingy (sorry) in the boot. Can I do that if I don't have a CD changer back there? Is the plug easy to find? Is it easy to install?

PS...Does this work with the iPod Video?

Thanks in advance!

Jpsmini,

You can call Denison directly to order or if you are lucky find one at Best Buy. I called them several nights ago about the unit as I too have an 06. He told me that the trunk mount method is probably the best choice for the 06 until they can further test the unit with then new HU.

Here is their site....

http://www.dension.com/main.htm

As for the rest, I will let you know when it comes in.

I think the latest firmware is 2.B2; Dension can provide you with those files. There's a configuration option that appears under the setup menu once you've got the latest version applied that will allow you to put text on the head unit.

I picked mine up from bestbuy, including the original that was missing the wire they had 3.
so i guess it just depends on your best buy, but there is always the .com or dension themselves.

i'll try the firmware when i get a chance... maybe tomorrow afternoon if not this weekend sometime for sure.

if that doesnt work i'll just get around to swapping the HUs from our Minis

FYI, Denison now has a good link on the main page for the firware updates. Looks like they are trying to fix their site up a little.
