'05 H/K won't read MP3 disk.

As the title says, I am geting "disk error" message when trying to play mp3 disk. It used to work, but I havent used it in few months. Just burned a new disk and got the error. I've burned the same compilation 3 different ways with the same result: "disk error".

Anyone have any ideas, or do I need to take this back to the dealer?

disk media? You sure they are being burned as MP3 files? I have never had any problem burning any MP3 files and having them read on the H/K unit.

Make sure you aren't using a CD-WR disc, and make sure it's finalized - if all else fails try another brand blank.

They are mp3's. I verified the file names. The disks are CD-R's. They were finalized. I've burned three different disks using WinXP file copy, Nero Burning Rom and ITunes. Same result on all three disks.

What Bitrate are the MP3s?
I had an experience, not on my H/K, with 256k where the reader did not work.

I've never seen a headunit have a problem with any particular bitrate, but have seen some not like variable.

I had the same problem and used a different burner (my laptop Vs my Desktop) and it worked fine... funny thing... months after that my CD Burner kicked the bucket....never had a problem with any other device reading those CDs.

I had something similar in my Audi

After cleaning the lens, never had another problem. Wonder if you got some dust on the lens and it was just having a problem with the initial track......

Is this new to the 2005's? Or will the H/K play mp3's on a 2004 model?

(I never tried, cause of my ipod, and I would right now, but I'm at work)

TIA

I think it became available on '05s.

CD-RWs work fine.

By the way, CD-RWs work fine. I have one that I use in my car and I re-write it every week the latest radio programs I record. Keeps the landfill from filling up!

I did notice that the mp3 head unit is unhappy if you record a CD-RW with very long file names. To be safe, I always put it down to ISO9660 format, which is 8 characters and 3 letter extensions (not rock-ridge, or Joliet which is Windows-95 style long filenames).

Make sure, with Nero, that you have the correct Drive type in the pulldown. Nero Express, for example. After starting the software check at the top to be sure the correct device is selected.
I have a DVD that will burn CD-R or RW, and DVD. If I burn DVD and then want to burn CD-R I have to change the pull down back to CD-R from DVD or MP3 will not be available.

If you burn as "audio CD" software will decompress the files and you'll only be able to fit maybe 20 songs in 1 disc but it will play on any CD player, whether it supports MP3 files or not.
Right now I have about 100 mp3s in 1 disc and takes me about a week to play them during my commute.
