iPod your BMW/MINI and XM/Sirius

Anyone fustrated that they can't have XM/Sirius radio and the Ipod piece from MINI? Blitzsafe now offers the only solution on the market. Our cable allows you to relocate the OEM Ipod part to the rear of the vehicle. You can then connect it in line to our MINI/XM SLD 01 or even the factory Sirius tuner. We recommend buying the unit and not having the dealer install it. If the unit is already installed, then unfortunately the radio will need to be removed in order to uninstall it. If anyone needs instructions on the radio removal proccess, let me know. One thing I did notice on all of the vehicles I uninstalled the Ipod piece, the wires will need to cut and spliced back together. I suggest solder and shrink wrap for all connections. I will shipping the cable on 3/12/05 for anyone who is interested. Please call me for ordering.

I have the Blitzsafe for XM. What do I need to add the iPod interface? Will you take a trade in on the Blitzsafe unit I have?

I'm sure there are a lot of MINI owners out there with questions.

If you have the XM Direct interface from us, the 101 or 01 specifically, or the factory Sirius tuner, you will need to buy a $35 cable from us. Our cable allows you to connect the interface in the "boot" instead of behind the radio. The cable will also work if you do not have XM or Sirius installed. Unfortunately BMW did not make a way to have both Sirius and the Ipod from the factory. We make it all possible. I will post some pictures of the cable this week to help clarify things a little. We will also offer an update on the XM SLD 01 that will already come with the connector to plug directly into the BMW/MINI Ipod interface.

Yes, the Ipod then gets relocated to the "boot". If someone would still want to have it in the front glove box, I could make a custom length cable. Personally, I wouldn't care if the Ipod was connected in the rear. I don't carry the Ipod everywhere and would probably just leave the Ipod in the car anyway. For me, it wouldn't matter. If someone wants to keep it in the glovebox, that can be arranged.

Well there just isn't a great place to store it and keep it from flopping around. Plus, I'd like to remove it and carry it w/ me w/o having to open the boot each time.

Actually how I have installed multple units an easy way. If you have one of the cases that have the belt clip, you leave the Ipod in the case, make a small cut in the trunk liner(about 2 inches long). The you can slide the belt clip into the incision and it will not move. If you really wanted to be on the safe side, use some velcro. I have done 3 of them and everyone loved it. Nobody I spoke to minded going to the "boot" to remove the Ipod. 2 people actually had Ipods mainly for the car and only removed them to change the playlists and add songs. If you like I could make you an extra length of cable to allow you to put it in the glovebox. Whatever you want to do.

Yes you will need to remove the Ipod interface from behind the radio and use our cable to install it in the rear of the vehicle. If you want to install XM, using our XM Direct interface, you will need to have an additional antenna. The fact that your headunit is Sirius ready renders your antenna useless for XM. I will tell you this, if you are not technically savy, I suggest letting a professional remove it.

Alright, so as it turns out, the Ipod integration harness will not be sold seperately. We will sell them as part of our XM Direct interface line up. The part number will be BMW/XM SLD I. The interface will sell for the same price as the 01. Anyone who already has an SLD 00/01 can send me the interface and I can upgrade it for them. The charge for that is $25. Anyone who wants one can call me for ordering.
