Jl audio 8w7
I just thought I would share my project. The last 2 months I have been collecting and building my new MINI system in the bluedog. The focal point is a Jl audio 8w7 sub in a .85cf sealed box placed in the drivers side hatch rear corner (right where the jl audio stelth box would sit). It is driven by the sub channel of the jl audio 500/5.
I got it up and thumping yesterday and I am over impressed with the setup. It will go from just filling in to punishing you out of the car. Amazing. Total cost for the sub was less than the stelthbox but I guess if you factor in time . . .

The JL amp is a perfect amp for that sub .It has 250 on the sub side. That is the recommedend power for that sub .This is a slash series amp with impedence matching ...big difference if you have never heard in comparison to other amp on the market ...The slash amps from JL are the best amps i have put my hands on to date . System sounds good give us something to look at .....

JL Audio recs the 250/1 for that sub. So the output for the sub channel on the 500/5 is the same 250w rms. You could go to the 500/1 but I think that would be way over the top. I am delayed on the pics because I have not gotten the box covered yet. I guess that I could post some pictures at this point.
I was looking at this sub as well but I wanted to go for a more stealth install. I was thinking that maybe it could fit into the trunk battery box of my MCS. I haven't got around to measuring the dimensions of the box yet but it just might work. The battery box could turn into a perfect sealed enlosure if the dimensions are right. I could relocate the battery to one of the side trunk compartments by using a smaller size battery. Any thoughts?

The battery box is a good idea for extra space but it would be difficult. The 8w7 is huge ... there is no mini in this sub (it weighs 18lbs). I don't think that the driver would fit into the battery box after you added the box material. Jl recs .75 inch mdf for the enclosure. The box that I built comes to about 1.2 cubic feet to get to the rec .89cf because of the size of the driver. The enclosure is a little larger than I initially wanted but the result is far above what I thought could come from a 8 inch sub.
by the way. . . Where are you going to put the battery?

I'm going to measure it up and see. The recommended specs for the enclosure according to the manual is 14" x 10" x 16.5". I could create a false floor to compensate for the lack of depth and could line the entire box with dynamat to seal it off. The overall length of the driver is about 8.5" so I think even a 13" depth enclosure may be sufficient. I was thinking of using one of those small dry-cell batteries and relocating it to the one of the trunk side compartments. Here is a pic of the recommended sub enclosure dimensions:
