aux cable for 2002 MCS

I have a 2002 MCS with the CD53 radio with Mode switch (see attached pic). Is there an aux cable I can add to this? I know most of the 2002's can't take an aux cable, but ours came with a CD53 radio that has an open bay (arrowhead in attached pic) that accepts the plug from an aux cable I bought off eBay. The cable plugs in fine, but the radio will only play a CD; pushing the Mode button does not change to an aux input.

Do I need to buy a later radio, or is my eBay cable junk?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Do you have an AUX connected? I believe you need to have a device connected to make AUX appear.

I had an iPhone connected. I tried playing music from the phone to the radio, but got nothing.

You need a later radio. Aux capability wasn’t available until somewhere around September 2002 of radio manufacturing. Also, if you have a CD changer you’ll need to transfer the wires/pins from the aux plug to the existing plug on the back of the radio. I think this is needed with NAV too. The MINI aux install I nstructions give the pin configuration for the plug.

I would get at least a 2003 to be safe, or around June 2005 or later if you want to play MP3 CD’s with the indash CD player. I don’t think MP3’s work on the CD changers.

^^ +1 Most people just get an 2005+ radio then get the aux cable/
