Nav Data Update

Hey all,

I recently purchased a 2011 R55 with the nav system option installed. I checked and the previous owner never updated the maps!! I decided I should probably remedy that issue. I recall from my previous years in the BMW world that the update is a simple and downloading the maps to a USB stick and inserting it in the glovebox USB port. The rub is you need an FSC code to activate the update. This proved to be no issue though as there is an awesome person in the BMW world who can provide the FSC update codes for free! I got the code from him and started the update process this morning. :D

The person who can get FSC's username is shawnsheridan. He is active on the BMW forums at Bimmerpost.com.

As for the maps themselves, I had to do some googling to find a Torrent that was active and sharing the latest MAP update. My system was the MOVE version.

Also MOVE here. Got the files, tracked shawn down on a different bimmer site that I was already a member of (bimmerpost was being bitchy and wouldn't let me PM). Waiting to hear back. Thanks for the info.

Lets see if I can help some. I just updated the maps on my 2014 roadster. There are a couple of difficult things to do that you will need to know. I downloaded the map files from a torrent site. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1605226
They must be put on a freshly formatted (fat32) USB drive root in a manner that only shows the files form the compressed zip folders . In other words take the files from the zip folder with no other folders and put them to the stick. I obtained a lifetime FSC code from ebay.
Before putting the stick into the USB port in the gloves box, you must turn the system on and wait for the nav system to boot up. Be patient and wait for the display to ask you to start update, then click OK.
You want to do all this when you plan on going for a long drive. Mine took 1.5 hours to finish the install. You can see the progress bar from the Nav- options at the bottom of the list.
I had North America 2014 Move maps and now have North America 2019 Move maps.

Hope that helps,
Ron

Thanks Ron, great details. One thing though, you do not need to drive around until the update is complete. The update will pause when you shut the car off and will resume the next time you drive it. Mine took around three trips to complete the update. There is no user input needed to resume the update on the next drive as well.

I did try once and it did not finish. I thought it would resume as I had read but it did not and I had to start over from the beginning. I guess it depends on the vehicle or the type of maps.

Interesting, I need to update my maps too. This seems pretty easy, anything else I need to know?
