R58 with bluetooth but no audio function

Hello!

I recently became the owner of a 2013 R58 Mini Cooper S Coupe again (my 2nd R58)...

My Coupe seems to have bluetooth..

I am able to pair my phone in the "telephone" menu but it does not allow me to use the device as an audio device. Only bluetooth telephone.

Does that mean this car does not come optioned with bluetooth audio but just bluetooth telephone?

Under the media menu, there is only External sources (with a USB logo) and CD. I cant see any bluetooth functionality in audio.

If i would like to use bluetooth audio, is there something i can do or some bmw original part i can buy to retrofit bluetooth functionality? Weird that it pairs up to the phone and works in every way except no audio functionality.

Im using the BMW Navigation system, the one with the screen.

Appreciate any advice and help!

Thank you very much!

Not sure about 2013, but I think you are correct, phone only. I believe I've read some threads about folks buying a BT adapter that plugs into the aux port to get audio, try a search.

Yes, my R58 JCW 2012has bluetooh audio/NAV, you have to select in the audio screen under the CD/Audio icon, then make sure under the phone section you have the Bluetooth audio checkmarked and hit ok, on the screen which shows your phone the bluetooth audio and bluetooth phone icons will both light up.

I stream my pandora on it all the time.

I can play music that's on my Android phone through my R58 sound system. I paired the phone to BT and is shows up as a source under CD/Audio. But I THINK that I have to have the Music program on my phone open for it to show up. So it will play what's on that screen I don't think I can select anything that's on the phone from the car's menu. But it will play it. (I haven't tried streaming).

Yes I know what you mean.. that was the case in my old R58 JCW but this car doesn’t have any of these options at all... really weird.

when I pair up under telephone, there is no option to check the audio function.

under media, there’s external sources with the USB plug only.

i might swing by the dealership and find out.. maybe a programming is in order? I find it hard pressed to believe the Bluetooth system can send the telephone call through the speakers and send my voice back through a mic but can’t play music?

Thanks again folks! Will update what I find out.

Will also see if I can capture a video of my menu’s missing the audio option so it can help others later. As these cars get older, less and less interest in them and less active conversations too! Haha

thanks again!

Bluetooth connection became standard on the 2013 models. You can play music from your Iphone and select the menu on screen but your device need to be connected with the OEM Y cable

I ended up buying this great little thing and it does what I need perfectly. Now I just need to figure out the best way to turn the white LED on top of it orange to match the rest of the lighting.
