Dealer installed XM question

I just had XM installed into my '04 MCS. It uses the stock HU and all of the controls on the steering wheel work fine. I have one question to anyone who has this setup. The 'SCROLL ON' feature doesn't seem to work. I'm assuming (I know, dangerous to do) that it would scroll through the channel, artist and title info, but it doesn't. Does the "SCROLL ON" feature not work or is something broke?

Thanks,

Butch

Search on the term 'XM Direct'. That is the product you have. I have it and the scroll does not work either. Over at www.blitzsafe.com the makers of the interface. They have a forum and you can ask questions if needed. According to their posts, the scroll is not supposed to work. Would have bene nice though.

I had the XM installed at Global Imports MINI in Atlanta. I knew that BMW had a deal with Sirius but I had XM in my previous car and I told them that I wanted it in the MINI. They said no problem, of course they charged me a lot more than what I could have bought it for a Blitzsafe. The stereo says Sirius when I turn it on but it is really XM.

Butch 285,

I have the same setup, and to see artist and title information, I hit the info button, each time you hit info it will show artist name, then song title, then channel name, etc. It does not scroll automatically, that I know of. It would be nice if that did though.

And regarding cost. I believe that was a $325 option for XM installed at dealer. Looks like pretty easy install for most folks though if they get the equipment themselves.

This is how it works for my SIRIUS install ...

If you PRESS the INF button, it will cycle through "Stream", "Artist", "Title" but only show the first 11 characters of each.

If you PRESS and HOLD the INF button for about 5+ seconds, it will display SCROLL ON.

Then PRESS the INF button, it will cycle through "Stream", "Artist", "Title" but if you delay after each press of the button, it will then display the next 11 characters of the "Artist" information. Press it again and delay, then you get the same for the "Title".

Here's my beef with this setup ... once you turn the car off, you have to PRESS and HOLD the INF button again to turn SCROLL ON again. It doesn't retain the setting.

I installed it myself in about 1 hour, and I am not a mechanically inclined guy. If you have the HK it is a snap, the hardest part is fitting all of the stuff in the boot hatch on the side where the HK amp is. I bought the unit for less than $300. It was a piece of cake.

I thought it looked pretty easy for a do it yourselfer. The dealer did use velcro tape to hold things in place to keep it from banging around back there. Just a thought.

By the way, I got the new dealer cost sheet, and that option is now $550.
