Husband believes he knows what he's doing.
Is getting Pandora on my Ipod to play possible? Have a new (to me) 2006 Convertible S with no discernible audio input. Should I just take it to a dealer to get wiring done if so? Sorry, I'm an older lady with zero technical or electronic skills. The kind of person who is proud to be able to put snow chains on a Prius
Thanks.
Thanks.

I think the "hard part" might be something my husband would be able to do....maybe. He has a tendency to overestimate his skills and afraid to have him pulling the radio out etc., and then damage something else. It's technically "my" MINI. Is there stuff he might break in there? I love him and he'd be upset reading this, but.........

All you have to do to install the aux input is pull down the panel below the steering wheel (its on hinges) and that allows you to reach in behind to plug it into the radio. Then you just fish the other end down though the through the little slats in the panel in the pic below if you dont want to drill any holes.

Thanks Zippy,
I'm obviously not rereading my posts before submitting, sorry. And yes, I meant Ipod, not Pandora. Realize I'd be better off selling this MINI and getting a newer model to get bluetooth than to get it installed. Thanks for correcting my error. I am happy knowing there's another way to play music than just CD's. :-)

As you can probably tell, this issue confuses me. Was told by the dealer who sold me the car that I can't play Pandora from my Smartphone in the car...but I guess he meant through the radio that's in it. But a different radio would fix this?
I'm so lost. If I could get Pandora to play in the car (is using my phone a possibility too?) I'd be in heaven.
Sorry. Blonde too.

I love my 2005...have had it since new!!
The same "line-in" or aux jack can be used to play music from a smartphone, iPod or other devise....will work equally as good for all of them!! Simpler than Bluetooth.....Less complex and faster to plug in/connect....Bluetooth can be nice...but like anything wireless, it is not 100% without headaches.

Mini even makes an adaptor to do this....
One issue has been as apple has updated connectors on the phones, to thunderbolt, the iPods have been left with the 30 pin flat connectors.....the adaptors are all the 30 pin flat connector...so it would work...but the issue is if your ipod ever fails....the $300 or do adaptor will be useless...
The aux connector, by the nature of simplicity will work with ANY item you can plug a set of headphones into.....so if you use a phone to store music, etc, it will work. Only downside (besides no charging) is the devise must be controlled on its own screen.....most say the radios controls of the iPod was iffy at best, so not much of a loss IMO.

Add Zunes, mini-disc players, heck a portable 8-trac ....lol...but more importantly it is FORWARD compatible with any item with a headphone jack....
Yes, the stereo can be switched out with a more modern unit with more buit-in features....but you will want a pro to install it, and be prepared to pay for a few extra parts to retain steering wheel controls....

The other plugs into the jack which is installed....the double need plugs are about $5 to 8 and can be had at most stores that sell cords...Walmart, RadioShack, best buy, etc....
Then just push the mode button on the stereo.... The AUX will be an option, along with CD, and radio....and you are good to go!!
