I wanted to hear if anyone has had their hk system cut out after having it turned up for about twenty minutes. My drive to work is a good thirty minutes and lets face it, some music just needs to be turned up. I figure the external amp is overheating, But it just seams like I am not pushing that hard. If anyone has any ideas please help! :???:

20 minutes cut off is a feature for HK when the car is not running. it save battery and also avoid mistake left the HK on when you left the car.

If yours cuts off when you are driving i'm sure you will need to take a trip to the dealer.

good luck

Greg, I have a friend whose non-HK does this. He has to turn it on every 20 minutes. They've replaced the head unit and that did nothing. It's something in the wiring or programming, like it thinks the car is off (maybe something like the accessory lead is not hooked up?). Anyway, take it to your dealer and have them check it out. They haven't been able to fix my friend's system yet- it's a pain on long drives. Goodluck. And if the dealership can't help, try asking an audio install shop what they think it could be.

Definitely not normal. I've taken a number of three-hour (one-way) trips, at high volume, and experienced no cut-off or shutdown.

Thanks for your response, But I could use some more of you out there to post. When I take it to the dealer I would like to show them with your reply that this is not normal. I really apprectiate all your help.

If HK systems generally turned off after 20 minutes, you *WOULD* know about it.
The MINI forums work to amplify negative comments ...

Mine is fine.
Of course, I don't normally listen on max volume which it sounds like you might be?

Like someone else mentioned, it does turn off after 20 without the key but I've never experienced a shut down even after prolonged drives (4 hours +) of near max volume. Hmmmmm
