iPhone 4 & 5 8-pin & 30-pin installation

Just picked up a MCS R53. I'd like to install some sort of iPhone dock connector so I can both charge my phone & play it through the car's stereo. Problem is I have an iPhone 4s, & will be upgrading to the iPhone 5s once it comes out. iPhone 4s has a 30-pin connector, & iPhone 5+ has an 8-pin "lightning cable". Is there some sort of Y cable for both 8pin & 30pin? Any ideas?

Also it'd be awesome if I could use the steering wheel audio controls to advance songs in my iTunes playlist - but don't know if that's possible...

Cheers,
Dan

Looks like everything I'm finding points to the GTA Car Kit. I'm assuming they will come out with a new 8-pin connector for this kit? Are there any GTA competitors out there I should consider?

http://www.gtacarkits.com/mini_coope...06_car_kit.php

Anyone know of an option like this that does both 8pin & 30pin connections?

Cheers!

You can purchase Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter. They have two versions: one adapter that has a short tether and an adapter that only goes between the two plugs.

Just get a unit that has a USB pigtail and then swap cables when you switch phones. Or go the Bluetooth route.

I would imagine that the adapters from Apple should work, but I'd contact the manufacturer of the adapter and check with them to be sure. There may be more than just a connector compatibility issue.

Ah, good call on the Apple adapter. Don't know why I didn't think that simple. I'll double check with GTA, but should work just fine. Think I'll order the kit tomorrow.

Has anyone tried this? Lots of comments in the reviews about issues with car systems...

The adapter worked with my 2012 CM but I don't have mini connect so I can't speak to those features.

I actually abandoned the whole system shortly after and went for a Tunelink (http://www.newpotatotech.com/TUNELIN...link_auto.html) which is totally Bluetooth so no tether whatsoever unless you want to charge which they give you a port. It works perfectly over the car stereo with an AUX cable that it comes with. It doesn't interfere with the mini Bluetooth phone connection either. I'm very happy with it so far.

AAAAAAH! Picked up the GTA Car Kit, ripped the dash apart & then found out that the adapter DID NOT FIT. OEM wiring harness connector snapped in to the radio perfectly, but the kit connector (while it looked to be the right size & had the right pin config, etc) would not fit - no matter how hard I tried, wiggled, cursed, etc. :P

Calling GTA this afternoon to try to resolve the issue. Pretty bummed about this...

(yes, it was the right kit ordered from the right page for the right car...)

Does the kit you bought allow complete manual control of the iPod? Many don't and in my view, that's a big shortcoming. I want to have the ability to just surf through the iPod interface itself and pick and choose anything I want.

I use USASpec's adapter. The number 6 button on the radio give me full manual control.
