Why do you want the different head unit? You can get all needed adapters from Mikey at newministuff, but he's in the UK, so delivered cost can add up in a hurry.

i think its an adapter. check walmart or something first i guess. it basically has to "adapt" a "Mini to Alpine" is what youll be looking for.

but, yes, WHY an OLD alpine?! lol going retro or something?

If you still have the harness for the alpine radio all you need is an adapter for the Mini. It will just be the plug to go into the Mini harness and loose wires then you connect it to the loose wires coming out of the alpine harness. I usually solder and shrink wrap these connections.

I'm pretty sure you need an antenna adapter as well. The Mini "slot" is pretty flexible so if you have the mounting stuff that came with the radio you can probably mount it without anything extra (assuming a gen 1 car).

If you have steering wheel controls that you want to keep that is an extra adapter.

I'm with you on the aux in/ipod controls. At this point I want one that will just play music off a flash drive, I don't even want to mess with an ipod.

online crutchfield.com is the obvious answer although I'm sure you can find them on amazon or at best buy and most places that sell aftermarket stereos.

You can fill out your car information and even the aftermarket head unit and search for accessories. But I usually skip right to the chat if they have someone online and tell them what I'm looking for.

I also just did the search "2002 mini cooper radio harness" on amazon and the top two entries are the wiring and antenna adapter. They look like what I remember but that was 7 years ago.

Don't buy just any steering wheel adapter some are much better than others do a little research on the list. First.

If you want an aux input why not just buy the mini cable? It's around $40 and just plugs in to the stereo at the back. It doesn't work with the steering wheel controls though.

Because 2002's aren't programmed with the AUX input mode. you can plug the cable in but its not going to recognize it. i need 03+ i already have a radio so this is easier and cheaper.

The aux input is a legit option if you just want a line in. I would recommend it as the easiest option by far.

Another note if you have the HK sound system that complicates things.

Is that a function of the radio (the 02 radio doesn't support it) or something with the car. I bet it wouldn't be hard to find a stock radio, actually I'm pretty sure I have an 03 radio in the garage some where.
