OEM Bluetooth and MFSW??

I have an '06 R53 with HK and the factory bluetooth option (PN: 84 11 0 302 897) with a MF steering wheel. I've searched and searched, no answers.. How do I get the buttons on the steering wheel to work?? I thought they were supposed to be meant for the OEM factory BT option, which is what I have installed.

Thanks!

The buttons were preinstalled....the kits were delayed numerous times...
All 2005+ facelift, production date jan2005+ got the buttons....but the kit were very $$ and much later....i think the next gen actually cameout BEFORE mini started shipping the gen1 bt kits. Are you SURE you have BT, and not JUST tge buttons?!

Mini also had a list of phones that would work with the factory bt kits...
If i remember right, not everything was supported, and factory mic was terrible...
Most folks actually ended up using a blueparrot bt kit with an adaptor to make the buttons work....rather than the $$$ mini kit...was about 25% of the cost for more functionality.

trying to get my iPhone 5 or wife's 3gs to work with the mfsw.. no luck. They both pair just fine and work with the dash mounted controller.

Good luck, I hope you got a screaming deal on the BT!!

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ni-cooper.html

My MA told me it was the most expensive hands-free phone kit for a car made, over 1200 bucks and you still need installation and the compatible phone...
There are tons of complaints about the MINI gen1 BT system....a quick serch will get you the list of phones that work...but all if not most are long gone...
While the new kit is quite an improvement, there are a couple of notable drawbacks. The biggest issue for most will be the lack of official phone options. MINI only lists the six different phones:
  • Motorola E815: Verizon / US Cellular
  • Motorola V710: Alltel / Qwest Wireless / U.S. Cellular
  • Nokia 6230/6230i: Any GSM Provider (Cingular / Tmobile)
  • Nokia 6310/6310i: this is way too old to even worry about
  • Siemens S55/S65: Any GSM Provider (Cingular / Tmobile)
  • Sony Ericsson T610/T616/T630/T637: Any GSM Provider (Cingular / Tmobile)
The main issue with most the phones is that they’re generally out of date at this point. The Nokia 6230/6230i is probably the best choice there (with the two year old SonyEricsson coming in a close second). Yet other, newer phones may still work with the system. The handsets listed are the only ones that MINI makes snap in docks for. But the only benefit with the dock is charging and connecting the phone to the external phone attenna. One would expect the phone to still work not snapped into the dock. We’ll hopefully have more info on this possibility down the road.
The other big issue some may have with the kit is the overall cost. The MSRP for the base bluetooth handsfree kit is $1250 (not including around $125 for the phone). That makes the current bluetooth kit look like a steal at $450.
You can read more (including install times) in the official product sheet below:

http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/06/22/integrated_aftermarket_bluetooth/
an older article on an aftermarket version...
I understand MINI made Several different versions....but they are an old outdated design from early BT days....

That kit doesn't work with the MFSW. The wiring diagram doesn't show any connection to the K-BUS (data bus) which is where it would have to listen for button signals. It is a standalone unit that provides audio output through the stereo but no other integration. Note that the dash controller would be unnecessary if the MFSW buttons did work.

What is this $1200 dealer BT option everyone keeps talking about? I've only seen the one I have. I think the steering wheel controls must have only been meant for future models (r56) as a carryover steering wheel.

I've yet to see or hear of an example where the mfsw BT buttons actually work in an R53.

Never mind, clicked on the link and found the armrest BT for $1200.. Seems like way too much $$.

I love my BT option, works great and has voice activation. If you hold the "switch" button it's like holding "home" on my iPhone, activating Siri. So.. I leave my phone in my pocket and say "call my wife, text brother, launch pandora", etc.. Works well. Just curios wtf the buttons were for on the mfsw, looks like its for the armrest option only.

I saw that someone had used the
Metra AWSC Metra AWSC
in another thread. It said it worked with aftermarket stereos. Does that include the H/K upgrade? How does this work with the MSFW? Basically what is the cost effective way to get the MSFW to work. I hate buttons that don't do anything!
