2013 Mini Connected w/nav - can Sirius be added after?

Just picked up our 2013 MCS with Mini Connected w/Nav. As some have pointed out 2013 dropped Sirius as standard equipment (but added bluetooth as std). My question is, can I add Sirius to the system?

I've searched the forum and I can only find info on the 2007 time frame Coopers, I doubt that thread applies to the 2013 with Mini Connected. I know i can get an aftermarket unit, but I would like it all integrated.

My dealer just opened a month ago and is unfortunately totally clueless about everything.

I am expecting that it's a box I plug in and mount under the dash or somewhere. Part numbers, manuals, anything would be helpful!

Thanks everyone.

I have been told that the it's the same as BMW has been for several years, the hardware is all there, they just turn it on for a fee. I haven't seen anything official yet so that's probably why your newbie dealer doesn't know anything about it.
Is this dealer a "stand alone' or is it connected to a BMW dealer? Their sister store may have the answer.

Might try BMW/MINI hotline as well.

Hi coldtoes -

I'm in the same boat - ordered a 2013 equipped with Mini-connected + Nav and no Sirius. In my case the omission was intentional - after realizing I could stream Pandora through the car from my Android, I questioned why I would need Sirius. Have you considered something like that as another solution to your dilemma?

Look on your vehicle build sheet for the Sat Radio Prep....If it shows that you can install the Sirius module. The hardware is not in the car and will run you around $500-1000 to get installed.

I love Sirius because the higher end data plan I would need to stream Pandora full time (especially if you go in and get Pandora One so you get the higher stream quality) is 2 to 3 times more expensive than the cost of Sirius.

Without Pandora One, the bit rate they stream to you makes Pandora sound like total crap in the car (at least to me).

End of the day, Sirius a month is cheaper than AT&T Higher end data plan (I paid $77 for the year of Sirius). If you have unlimited data... more power to ya!

2013 MCS satellite upgrade

In a similar boat. 2023 MCS, no sat. Per dealer all the hardware and wiring is in. My checking indicates radio and car can be programmed for satellite using an "enable code" - updates the radio bios, etc. BMW announced availability of code for 2012-2013 BMW with same issue in September. My dealer says not available from Mini. Love to hear what others are hearing.
Here is a link to BMW info:

Mini Sirius Enable Code now available

If your build includes wiring and hardware for Sirius, but no Sirius, radio can be programmed to include sirius and Sirius can then be activated.

Dealer just told me that the code is now available. Cost is $375 plus tax plus $160 for labor to do the programming. This should include a one year Sirius subscription which can then be activated.

If you have a 2013 your MINI has code 693 as standard equipment which is Satellite prep. $375.00 for the download code plus one hour labor and you're all set. Comes with one year of the service included.

Now have Satellite. Car had all wiring and hardware. 0674 HK premium sound. Needed to purchase "enabling code" and have radio firmware programmed. Part no. 65-12-2-336-819. Now sit down. Cost $360 plus tax plus labor. Includes 1 year Sirius. It works.

2013 w/o nav?

Does the activation code option also work for a base mini without nav and non HK stereo? I just got one without Sirius and would like to install it...

The lack of Nav isn't the issue. The radio needs to be "satellite radio". I thinks this is also called "satellite prep". Take your VIN to the Mini dealer parts department and they should be able to look up and see if your radio is satellite ready (means that the antenna, receiver and wiring are in place). Don't know if non-HK radios are or are not.

Thanks for the tip! I take delivery of the car tomorrow - may as well mosey to the service dept (if they are still open) and ask. Since I commute, it'd be nice to have at least the traffic/weather channels and some other stuff to keep me entertained while I move at the NYC snails pace that is rush hour...

I actually entered the Part number you posted (65-12-2-336-819) on pelicanparts and it seems as though they sell it for $388, but there is not really description of what it is. It just says it's a "special order" part that is non returnable...

I'll check with dealer tomorrow to see if my car is sirius ready on the build sheet.

Stumbled on this thread looking for something else... For one with MINI Connected and NAV, a quicker, cheaper solution would be to get the Sirius app for iOS. Cost: $ZERO.*

*(still need a Sirius account.)

All USA versions of MINI have "satellite radio preperation" as standard equipment in 2013 models. Purchase activation code and reprogram car is all that's needed. Cost of code includes 1 year trial of SIRIUS/XM.

I thought about the Sirius app also. But it's a little inconvenient. Plus, unless you have unlimited data your cell phone bill can go through the roof.

Can you show me your source?

I was told by the dealer via my VIN, that I don't have Sat Prep.
Meaning, no hardware is available to activate.
