Navigation & Audio dumb question. hk stereo aux in....?
dumb question. hk stereo aux in....? still not working ????
I have a 2008 mcs with the hk stereo and aux in.
Ok here we go how do i use it?
I plug in my phone play my music but nothing comes thru. I hit the mode button and all it does is switch between cd and radio. The steering wheel controls dont do anything either.

I'm not sure about a fuse for it all. I can't imagine that the steering wheel buttons would need fuses as I'd imagine they're just signal wires with no real power running through them requiring fusing.
Sorry I can't be more help, I don't know a ton about the system on these cars yet.

My iPhone would not play through the factory head unit unless I used a y-cable plugged in to both the USB AND the aux input connectors. Then everything worked great. Luckily for me the previous owner left a y-cable in the car when he traded it in.
you should try checking that the wires from the aux in are in the right places in the connector on the back of the head unit. also ik that if you have a case on your phone or ipod that sometimes the plug wont go in far enough so try without the case.
just a though hope it works

Thx i pulled the radio out and its plugged in and no case on my evo 3d phone so its plugged in all the way and i tryed another cord also still nothing. Maybe its the aux plug itself that dont work sucks if i buy another and still does it but maybe only thing else to try
is your device also connected to a charger? there is a well documented ground loop issue if you use the aux in and a charger ... but you can get an inexpensive "box" to eliminate the problem
search ground loop
have you tried a different device - iPOD certainly works can you run a test with one?

When you cycle the mode button, AUX should appear even if you have nothing plugged in. There is something wrong with either the aux cable or the headunit. If the steering wheel buttons also don't work, the evidence points more towards the headunit. I would first try pulling the headunit out and unplug/replug all the connectors in back, in case some pins aren't making good contact.
BTW, it has nothing to do with the HK. The base stereo and HK both use the same headunit.
The car is a 2008 1st gen convertible. No USB option or Y cable.

thx i tryed unplugging and plugging back in everything when i pulled the HU out. seems maybe HU since aux doesnt come up at all when i cycle the mode button.
i wish i could replace the head unit for a alpine i have laying around but from what i have read on here is not possible without replacing everything else, man this really sucks.

The aux problem could be caused by a faulty aux cable. It has a small circuit that the headunit detects before it enables aux mode. I've seen a few threads where the cable was the problem and it worked after replacement. However, the unresponsive steering wheel controls indicate there might be other issues with the headunit.
You can use an aftermarket headunit by using an adapter called the HK Enabler, sold at this UK vendor: http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=116. The inventor Ian Cull (member GBMINI here) chronicled its development in his blog: http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2004/06/min...roductionized/

thx i tryed 3 different ones nothing worked. my steering wheel controls work for volume up and down and switches radio station and cd tracks but the phone and the r/t buttons do nothing.
i will look into that that would be nice if i cane get one of those and switch the radio for my alpine.

That's normal. The phone buttons are there whether or not the car has bluetooth. Factory installed bluetooth was not available during the 1st generation MINI. There was only a very expensive OEM Bluetooth kit installed by the dealer and almost nobody got it.

Navigation & Audio When adding an AUX input, does the HK stereo have a choice for AUX?
