MM691 no bass?

Hey guys,
Did I miss something? I just finished installing a new pair of 691s in the rear. What a PITA! I was hoping that is was worth it, but when I turned on the tunes, they sound good but are lacking bass. I know they are not 10s, but they have less bass then the factory 6x9s. I do have the channel swap but no amp.

Let me know what you think. I've spent the last 2 hours searching the forums, but there is soooo much info, I know I'm missing something.

Thanks a lot for any help.

I would suspect there is an issue at the x9331 connector. I have never known anyone who did not notice a HUGE increase of bass after successfully swapping the front / rears. Maybe a quick recheck of the swapped wires?

I did notice a huge increase when I did the channel swap a few months ago. I didn't touch the x9331 connector when I installed the new polks last night. Do I need to swap the channels back? (I never read a post when anyone did this?) I'll double check the connections though. If I mixed up the negative/positive wires on the back to the 6x9s would that have caused it?

Thanks again for the input.

Cheers!

No - I would not swap back

I think that it would be possible if you are running them out of phase (reversed + and -). Have you put the interior back in? Can you check/swap them to see if there is any improvement?

Yes. Sounds like you reversed the polarity of one speaker. Keep in mind that the factory HU is very low power, so you're not going to get much bass anyway.

Thanks for all the help. I have the interior all back together, so it's not so easy to fix, but I was wondering why it would be only one speaker with reversed polarity?

I just got to thinking, can I just swap polarity at the x9331 connector?

Yes - you can reverse it at the x9331, but if that is the problem, you might consider fixing at the speaker later. I say this in case you ever decide to add an amp or make modifications, it will make things less confusing.

Looks like that was the problem. Stupid mistake. I think I will pull the seats out and fix it right. I was to add a sub, so I'll take the time to tie into the rear lines for a small powered sub. How do you like yours?

I like my little sub - it adds just enough "thumpa" but is not overpowering - it's clear and not too "boomy". You can run power from the rear cigt. lighter (based on some testing of other NAM members) - it has worked flawlessly for me. It's a nice little option short of buying or building a built in box.

Thanks Kevin for your help. I was wondering if you guys' ever thought about just selling the box for the 1101s? Just a thought.

Thanks again!
