success

Today I grudgingly removed the European parcel shelf and then the lower cover of the steering wheel to get to the audio control line from the MFSW. I severed it from the CAN bus and bring the signal to where the audio HU is. I initially had some problem following the instructions (never my strong suit ). I also forgot that the pre-set down is actually mode change, and the pre-set up alone works just fine if you are like me with only 3 stations that you care to tune into.

The SWI-RC is working now with the Alpine HU. My only problem is stuffing all those adapter connectors out of the way of the HU. It is jam-packed in the cavity. My only remaining challenge is re-installing the two screws holding the parcel shelf as the holes are not in alignment with the plastic screw receptacle clips. It had always been a issue with the European parcel shelf. Dealing with the trims is a major PITA with small project like this.

Glad to hear you got it working correctly. Accessing the lower cover of the steering column sounds scary, but it really isn't that bad.

You're right - the adapter and all the wires are in the way behind the new radio in that cavity. I had luck shoving them down and pushing the radio back to "hold" them in place below the radio.

Glad the pictures helped!

And the best part of this exercise is, I received extra homework assignment on learning how to reset airbag light.

a little new delight

It is a bit off topic, but still related to safe driving electronic enhancements that work.

I just updated the Apple Watch to the latest OS. Of course the Toy Story watch faces are must have.

I am pleasantly delighted by this new audio control which nicely augments the ones on the MFSW.

I don't think that's possible

It's not like each button is wired to the radio there is just a single wire for the data bus. You need the adapter to convert the signals coming from the buttons to the radio. Not even all the aftermarket radios accept the same signals so you typically have to tell the adapter the brand of radio you have. Take a look at diagram 118 here http://wtxmc.org/MiniCooperDocs/WIRING.pdf
