MINI Connected / ipod classic (160GB)
Does anyone have the ipod classic hooked up to their MINI connected system?
Sometimes my ipod disappears from the external devices menu. I've noticed the ipod is rebooting during this time. Any one else experience this?

MINI connected is NEW for this year and as such has not been fully tested with ALL forms of iPods by people here on the forums. So there may not be anyone else with the same set up.
Have you tried updating the Firmware on the iPod that may help you, or it may make the problem worse. iPods are problematic when it come to working with many cars.

It's the latest firmware from Apple. Tonight I was going to try a full reformat, and install of the ipod. Hopefully that'll cure it!
I do not have connected, but I do have the iPod/Bluetooth option in my 2011 Cooper. I am having the same problem. The system will just stop playing music and the track selector will freeze. It will then go to the FM radio by itself. When I go to reselect the iPod, it is not an option to select. I have to unplug the iPod, restart it, then plug back in. My iPhone never does this. The iPod is a 5th generation classic 60gb. It's driving me crazy!
I have a 160GB Classic as well in my 2011 MCS with Mini Connected. I haven't noticed this yet, but I haven't had the iPod plugged in that much. I don't have the right cable, so I can't get Connected to recognize the iPod. It plays fine through the CD/Media menu.
How did reformatting the iPod go? Did it fix the problem?

It is only on the CD/Media Menu. Only an iphone or iTouch will work with Connected. Need something that can run the connected app.
Same thing here. I don't have connected but my 160 gb ipod just quits sometimes. It still plays but car won't recognize it. I tried my ipod touch and similar problems, but not as often. My old MC did the same thing in reverse. 160gb never failed but the ipod touch would rarely work in the car. I have been told in order to make the newer ipods/iphone4 work or charge the voltage in the pin connector is different. (apples way of making you buy new accsessories). My best guess is MINI changed the voltage to accomodate the Iphone4. My dealer made a point of telling me the ipone4 would work now in the 2011, (in turn leaving the rest of us with older ipods screwed) I just use the aux. Don't sound as good but, that's what I do.
So the reformat didn't seem to fix the issue. If my iPod is detected, it plays just fine until I turn the car off. When turning the car on, sometimes the iPod isn't detected and I have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back it. Then the iPod is detected and all is well. Still kind of annoying though...
This is my first posting despite having owned a MINI for over 5 years. I had a 2005 MCS with the glove box iPod adapter and used my 160GB Classic with zero problems.
I've had my 2012 MCS with MINI Connected less than a week and have had nothing but problems using the same iPod with the "Y" cable. The iPod froze on the second day and the system put out this horrible buzzing sound. I stopped by my dealer since I was close by and they blamed it on my iPod, reset it and sent me away. It worked fine for a couple days. I updated the iPod and within 20 minutes of playing it froze again. I unplugged the iPod, the cables, reset the iPod, but no good. The screen display shows my iPod, but once I select and try to play, it says nothing is connected. I spent money on Connected solely to enhance my iPod interface and it's not working! Any tips anyone can share?

I went back to the dealer this weekend and guess what they found out? MINI shipped the wrong y-cable for my car. Cars with NAV need a different cable than cars without NAV. It's not displaying album at but the audio finally works
I am having issue with my iPod classic. It works fine if I use it with the Y cable. But I want to leave it in my glove box and use the Y cable for my iPhone. Basically, I want the option to leave it in my glove box and just take it out to charge it.
My car will not recognize it at all at the "front aux" position, but it plays fine using the Y connector position.
Any ideas?
