Problems with MINI Cooper 2010 with Bluetooth / iPod interface
Hi all!
It has been a long time since I last posted here.
Things sometimes go strange. After so many problems I had with my first MCS I decided to give the new model a chance. I'm now the owner of a beautiful Laser Blue 2010 MCS!
Got it almost fully loaded. It's a hoot to drive - FAR better than my old s/c one.
I have a problem, though. I got the iPod / USB and bluetooth interfaces. My iphone works perfectly well with bluetooth, but when I plug it into the usb port, and try to select it, two things happen:_
1) the menu doesn't say "ipod / USB". It only says "USB"
2) I get a "USB Error" message, and can't do anything with my iPod.
USBs work great with the audio system. It's only the iPhone the thing that isn't detected.
Anyone have any experiences with this?

I don't live in the States, that's how
2010's came out last week here. As far as I've seen there are really no differences between the 2009 and 2010
Anyway, I tried your trick, and it didn't work :( I wonder if it has something to do with the ECU reprogramming I've read about here. I mean - I got a free iPod when I bought the car, so it should work, right?

Do you have the Special "MINI Y-Cable" if you do not then you iPhone will NOT show up as an iPod on the system.
As far as i know the only place in the world that the cable comes as standard with the car is the USA. Every where else in the world it seems the cable is purchased separately.
Here is a picture of the "Y-Cable"

Ah... so that's the problem! No, I don't have the Y-cable. Strangely enough, the guy at the dealership told me all I needed was the standard iPod cable (and obviously that didn't work - all I see is "USB Error" when I plug mine in).
I need to take the car back to the dealership - I ordered mine with white stripes, and they didn't install them. I'll try to get the cable for free (my dealer told me I could choose something as a gift - let's see if it works).
I'm not that worried about it, though - the standard stereo sucks so much, I'm in no hurry to plug in my iPod. And I already made up my mind; I wont change my speakers for now. I want my car to remain as rattle free as possible.
By the way - the more I drive the car, the more I fall in love with it. Sure, I miss the S/C noises, but the whole car feels better built and a lot faster.

The standard iPod cable that came with the iPod will work with non iPhones only if the iPod is set up in a very specific manner (disk use) when it is first initailized.
i don't know of anyone getting and iPhone to work as a USB only device with the Mini.

The cable is standard equipment for BT/USB option, at least in the states.
I'm using the iPhone 3G with a cradle in the armrest ($150 on top of BT/USB/Smartphone prep). But it works like a charm - charges the phone, plays my audibooks. I wish I didn't have to unplug my USB thumbdrive since the car only recognizes one device at a time - either iPod/iPhone or a USB stick.
