Upgrading the standard audio system

Hi guys I bought my Mini off the lot so I didnt have a whole lot of choices as far as options go. The car was pretty much equipped with everything I wanted except for two items: Sirius and Prem Sound System.

I got my answer about the Sirius kit in another thread ... so now Im left with the Prem Sound question.

I did a search and read the specs on the systems that can be found here:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...tem-specs.html

My question is how hard is it to convert the Stand system into the prem system?

Is it just adding 4 more speakers and changing the amp? if so anyone have an idea on the cost to purchase those parts?

If its a lot more difficult then that what options do I have?

I came across this while looking through NAM's Vendors:

https://www.newministuff.com/new/sho...uctshow&id=623

^is that a better option???

Non-hi-fi to hi-fi: the short answer is you can't get there from here.

The longer answer is you don't want to go there anyway!

My highly biased conclusion is you can get reasonable sound by replacing the OEM speakers and adding a small subwoofer.

Peruse the other threads.

Don't take life seriously. Have fun!

Agreed. After taking the advice from folks like k6rtm, I replaced front speakers and added a sub. I am replacing the rears in a few weeks. As it stands now, my system runs circles around my buddy's Premium system. Cheap paper drivers all the way around.

Did you have to change out the amps? Can you link me to any DIY threads?

No - the current head unit does a fine job with the right speakers - I used Infinity reference speakers - very efficient.

Here's what I am using or planning to use (haven't done rears yet)
Front Lowers : Infinity Reference 6022si's
Front Uppers : Infinity Reference 3022cf's
Rears : Either Infinity Reference 9623i's or 9622i's
Sub : SSL Soundstorm USS8 (self powered)

Please take the time to read the entire thread (I know it's long) but boy will it save you time, money and headaches. Replacing the front lowers is easy, uppers are a little more difficult due to the mirror switch, rears are a PIA due to having to take everything out of the back (including seats)
