Better Garmin Nuvi Mounting Options

Ok, the suction cup on the speedometer idea has failed miserably - not only won't stay on the speedo but has left a big ring on it. Also knocked my antenna off but I fixed that.

I am not about to spend beaucoups bucks for the fancy mounting brackets either. Has anyone had any luck using the vent clip mounts? Any particular brand that attaches easily and stays on? What about the beanbag? Right now I'm using the wife to hold the Nuvi for me. I'd kind of like to leave her at home. Pleeeeeease help!

Yea, I've got a Kuda also and it works awesome, looks almost like it came with the car, it's the perfect position for the gps......they are about $100 when all said and done, I got mine here off of NAM for about $45.00

I'm going with the bean bag. I've spent way too much already on my toy.

A bit pricey, but worth it IMHO.

One more satisfied Kuda customer here.

The only downside is I've had it mounted for a year or two & if I remove the mount, there's a lined indentation on my dash... but then again the mount will probably just stay there for as long as I have the Mini, anyway...

Check out Proclip. I like it because it puts the GPS over where the navigator can play with it. We've got ours in an R56, but they make mounts for all cars. Total cost about $60 plus shipping.

Good find. The guys at the Garmin Nuvi website

highly recommend the Proclip too. The installation looks extremely easy in the video. But it too seems a little pricey.

Then again the beanbag runs about $40 at Target and there's no guarantee it'll stay in place when I powerslide through the twisties. But it would be transferrable from one car to another. Hmmm....still thinking at this point.

I made a custom mount using a panavise clip and the Garmin OEM mount head:

Still my favorite of all the options I've seen. Search for Panavise 75146-102 and you'll find several sources in the $25-$30 range for the clip.

I'm really surprised you had trouble with the suction mount on the speedometer face. You are the first person I've heard have that problem which makes me wonder if your suction mount is working properly. For me anyway, the suction mount has the big advantage of being able to completely remove any indication of having the GPS in the car....all the permanent mounts still have the ball showing even when the GPS itself is removed.......a clear indication to the bad guys that a GPS is probably just removed to the glove box.

I decided to buy the bean bag mount at Target for $39.95. I figured if it didn't stay put I'd return it and order the more permanent Kuda or ProClip. So far the bean bag hasn't budged. It sits just to the side of the monster vent on top of the dash. It has the added advantage for me of being hideable when I'm parked in Philly and it can be put in the wife's car if she needs it. So far I am very very pleased and a bit surprised by how it's working out. Of course you purists will obect to the fact that there's a big wire hanging down to the cigarette lighter but that's the trade-off for the portability and cheapness of the unit.

You pretty much summed it up! We have the beanbag and its been pretty good. This way the wife and I can transfer it easily. The only issue has been on the highway thats like a washboard, it tends to move after a bit, but not so much as to be annoying!

Yeah... the beanbag wouldn't work on my 1g+ Dragon Runs. But I only pull .8g on the minivan, so that's not a problem.
