Recent Firmware Update, new features

Hello Everyone,
I have R56, delivered May 10, 2007. It has the Nav System, bluetooth, etc.

When it was delivered, the Voice Activation Button didn't work. Like a few other people who have the voice activation button on the 2007, I brought it back to the dealer, they did a firmware update, and fixed it.
Recently I brought it in and had the Factory Alarm System added as well as Factory Sirius Radio. During the installation, the dealer updated the firmware of my car.

I've noticed a few things and just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced these things:
First off, my phone (Motorola Q9M) nearly fully works now. Before this most recent firmware update, it would pair, but my address book wouldn't appear, and when someone called, it wouldn't display the caller id (just show "******"). My previous phone (Motorola Q) worked perfectly. The address book synced, and the caller id displayed.

Now, the Motorola Q9M somewhat works. The address book syncs. But now, instead of the generic Mini ringtone when a call comes in, it actually plays my phone's ringtone through the speakers. Also when I get a new notification (such as calendar reminder, text message or e-mail message), it plays that notification chime as well. Kind of cool, but the problem is it mutes my music, which can be slightly distracting, especially since I get tons of e-mails all the time. Incoming caller ID still doesn't work the way my old phone did.

The only problem with it is now the Mini's phone section is VERY slow. Before, if someone calls me, I would hit the Answer button on my steering wheel, phone call would start. But now, because there is a sizable delay by the time the Mini is ringing and I hit the answer button, I've already missed the call. Also, when I hang up a call, and it will take the Mini 2 - 3 minutes to realize that the call is hung up and restore my music. Shutting off the car, I get out, hit the lock button, before, it would stop music, shut everything down, briefly display the Mini Logo and lock the doors. Now it locks the doors, but music continues to play to me for about 3 mins. If I shut off my phone, music stops, the Mini logo displays. Weird, it's like my phone and my mini speak different languages and are waiting for a translator to communicate. Never did this before, but of course, the overall integration was much worse before.

Another thing I noticed, is in the CD part of Entertainment, there is DVD listed. I have yet to put a Movie DVD into my Navigation DVD drive, but what the heck? Did I just not notice that before? Where is that Italian Job DVD...

Last thing. Live in DC. Lots of traffic. The Nav system gets real-time traffic info from the radio. Before when there was a delay, the nav system voice (I call her Cortana), would say "There is a traffic situation ahead" or something like that. But now, it will display a message that says "Detour ahead due to traffic situation, exit in xxx miles to avoid..." not getting the message exactly correct, but COOL! I had long ago turned off Cortana, and the visual notification (great use of red and greens) has been much better.

Anyway, just wondering what other people's experiences are like. Overall, I'm much happier with my Mini, the integration is much better, even with the phone has new issues (I can always replace my phone, replacing my Mini is a different story).

you're saying that it will display the actual email or text message on screen? or just a notification telling you that you received an email or text?

No, just plays the notification chime. That would be awesome, but probably very dangerous and would defeat the purpose of having hands-free laws anyway.

Other reports on the Q9M also say that the address book doesn't sync. Interesting that it changed after the firmware change.

I've noticed that it takes three or four seconds for the display to update on the Nav when I answer a call, but people can hear me talk almost immediately after I hit the phone button to answer. Doesn't sound like the behavior you're getting though...

If I have a non-map disc DVD in the Nav drive, it will show this menu, but it only works like the CD player did. No video

I wish the car would give up the firmware/software versions. I find it hard to believe that each car is a unique build.

Are there any software updates like their are for the 1st gen (x5) nav's? I just updated my wife's '05 MCS to v32 and it now has a cooler perspective view than my clubman's. :(

Goines,

Where did you get the V32 firmware? I want to load it on my range rover since I am still at 29.1 :-)

Thanks!

The x5world.com forums seem to have the latest info on the whole thing, as well as links to download the firmware. I also noticed you can get it here: http://www.bmwportal.net/navos.html

It's pretty cool.
