Show us your Audio Systems

ok, just placed and order for a JCW Clubman and thanks to everyone on the boards, opted to leave out the Hi Fi , or should i say the Sci Fi stereo. Figured i'll spend a bit more but get what i want. I would love to get some ideas, but even better see some pics of already installed and how about during install pics?

so far i'm looking at this
- Kenwood DNX 8120, hopefully it fits. according to crutchfield the 7120 does.
- Boston Acoustic component speakers? 6 or 8, how many can fit?
- rear mounted 10 -12" sub
- amp

keep in mind i'm interested in keeping the factory look. Rear sub if possible mounted in the rear spare tire well, that is if there's one? obviously the head unit will be visible, but that's ok.
thanks fellas, any thoughts and especially pics would be helpful.

WOW, I'm not sure where a double din unit would fit in an R56 MINI. I'd be interested to hear if this is even possible.

The width of a DIN unit is 7"w x 2"H x X"D and a double DIN is 7"W x 4"H x X"D.

There is no way the face of this unit i will fit in a R56 or R55 with out some major cutting. In fact i would have to move all the heating/ac controls down about 1-1/4 inch to get a double DIN to fit between the speedo and the controls. And then i would have to modify the down tubes on either side and some of the metal framing behind the down tubes to get the width to fit.

As for the 7102 fitting in an R56 or R55 again there is no way with out major work.

And i just looked at the Crutchfield site and it states for all 2008 Mini models "Not Researched Yet" so that means that they have not found a radio to fit.

Also take a look at this thread it has pictures of the parts out of the dash. and guess what there is no room to fit a single DIN much less a Double DIN in there.

Lots of people have put in extra amps, replaced speakers and such but there is so little room in the dash, center stack area that nothing standard fits so it is very difficult to change out the radio (it is also part of the unit that holds the speedo in place) that it is probably not worth the hassle.

Fortunately, most stock head units are actually pretty good audio sources, so a lot of people just stick with the stock head unit and use a good-quality converter like the JL Audio Cleansweep to connect the stock unit to any downstream equalizers, signal processors and amplifiers they may want.

Of course, if you have some kind of media that the factory stereo won't play, you're kind of out-of-luck, but I think the R56 stereo can be set up with an iPod interface and satellite radio, so between that, AM/FM, CDs and MP3 discs, you should be covered pretty well.

thanks, when i pick up car i will check out some audio specialist. that's a good idea, stereo w/ remote would work. besides it could give the passenger something to do besides just hanging on.
