iPod or USB stick?

Hi,
I just got my MCS and i love it. I ordered my MINI with teh NAV System and Ipod connection. I asked my Sales Person if i could connect every MP3 player and she said yes. Unfortunately the Zune does not work !!

My question is, if i buy an Ipod, can i select the artist and/or the songs via voice commands, or will it be the same like a USB stick?
A USB Stick is cheaper as an IPod so what would be better?

Thanks for your help.

There is no voice command for the iPod or any USB connected device.

And a Zune should play in the car if connected properly but of course it still will not have voice control.

If you're only going to use the music files in your car, then the USB drive might be the way to go. Cheaper, as you say, and you can still use the USB hookup to navigate through the files and play the songs you want.

What you gain with the iPod is the ability to listen to your music anywhere, not just in the car, and you can set up playlists and manage the contents of the iPod using iTunes, instead of just a file manager like Windows Explorer or Mac OS Finder.

On top of the above info using the iPod will allow you to also listen to DRM music which you can not do using a USB Drive/Stick.

I have not seen any vehicles yet that have controls for multiple types of MP3 players from the radio controls. Only iPods as far as i know from OEM radio controls at least. Some after market radios may control a Zune or other MP3 player though.

USB... it's cheaper and no one will try to steal it.

I just re read this and i am unsure if you have the USB connection as there were two different types of iPod connections.

1. Is yours in the secret compartment ?

2. Or did you get a Y-Cable that plugs into the lower portion of the center stack with a usb and aux ends and the iPod on the other end?

If #1 then you will not be able to use a USB stick

Hi Schatzy,

Do the commands like "Next Track" and "Select a Track" work if you're already playing something through the USB/iPod connection?

Stick all the way. Ipod sounds muddled by comparison (limitation of the aux in port). USB sounds better than the CD and I don't know why.

I have an 8gig Lexar mini USB that you can barely see with a blue light that flashes when its running, matching the mood lighting the of the car.

Not even a close contest. If you want play lists, make folders.

I do not have the NAV in my clubbie but after taking to my MA and some other folks no one has been able to get any voice commands to work for the iPod as the iPod or USB sitck do not recognize them.
