$105 CAD for USB/iPod Y-Cable?!

Hey guys - I'm picking up my car today, and just found out that the USB/BT option that I got (called Media Connect in Canada) does NOT come with the Y-cable for plugging in your iPod.

Worse yet, it's $105 (Canadian dollars). Holy $h!+

After a quick search, there doesn't appear to be any alternatives for this cable.

Any advice on sweet-talking the dealership to throw it in?

Yikes!

If it is part of the Conv Package tell them to take the package out as the Y-Cable is part of the package, and they should not be charging you for it. it is a required item for the package to work properly so there should be no extra charge. if they still insist an charging for it call Mini Customer service and complain until it get to you as a free item.

If your media connect puts your iPod in the secret compartment you should not need the Y-Cable as the cable in the secret compartment should connect directly to your iPod.

Not only would they not throw it in, they wouldn't even sell me one. I had to buy mine from the BMW dealer.

Price we pay for being Canadians, I guess.

All indications here are that the Y-cable is NOT included in the package in Canada. Just another way of sucking $105 out of us. I grumbled -- and handed them my credit card .

If it makes you feel any better, it is not just a simple Y-cable...there are electronics in it to convert the USB control signals from the car into RS-232 level signals for the iPod.

Hey Chernobyl - fancy meeting you here...

No I don't feel any better for having to pay, but I guess I'm not alone. On the plus side, it works great with the 5th gen iPod video. Looking forward to upgrading to the iPhone soon...

Thanks for the sympathy guys!
