$725 for stereo install?????

This morning I went to Best Buy to have installed a pair of Diamond Audio Components (which I supplied), a pair of Diamond Audio 6x9's (which I supplied) and a 4 channel MTX amp (which I supplied) and to have Dynomat installed and the installer quoted me a price of $725 to install everything. Of course I said no and left. Is this guy crazy or does that sound correct?

Sounds like he must have worked in a MINI dealership in a past life.

deff high pricing. labor isnt cheap to install sound deadening and if you dont have the HK system then he has to get behind the radio to tap in which is horriable.

Were you going to dynamat the whole interior? You have to remove the entire interior to dynamat the car.

See Robin's thread here.

I would agree probably most of the price is from the dynamatting the car. That could be a day job alone at 50-75 an hour it would add up quick!

If he's gonna be installing 6x9's in the rear and components in the front doors....you're basically removing the whole interior anyways. Getting to those 6x9's basically requires you to remove everything from the doors back.

Price sounds fine to me...especially if you're dynamatting a whole lot. What you have listed requires a great deal of time and effort to install and labor isn't cheap.

For my old shop (8 years ago):
$120 for separates up front
$35 for coaxes in the rear (more if the side panels have to come off, so, figure $75)
$75 for basic amp install (which the R56 is NOT)
$65/hr for soundproofing

Basically, the quote you got was for a solid 10 hour day which could easily be the case from my own experience.

I retired from professional installation about 7 years ago. $725 sounds about right. I just did my whole install myself, which included everything you're talking about having done. I was in no rush, but it took me every bit of 10 hours.
