Pics Of My R56 Custom Amp/Sub/False Floor Install

I chose to go with an all MB Quart System which includes the following (see gallery for pics, or see post below):

(1) RSH254 10" shallow subwoofer (less than 4" mounting depth)
(1) PAB5400 5-channel amp
(1) DSH216 6.5" component system (front)
(1) pair DTH169 6x9's (rear)
(1) Audio Control LC6 line level converter (factory HU)
(1) Stinger Wiring Kit
(1) Dynamat Trunk Kit

I'm a former mobile electronics installer, so I did the install myself. All in all, it went very smoothly. By tapping the front door speaker leads inside the door boots, I was actually able to do the whole install without removing the factory head unit. I removed the tool kit in the boot to maximize the available air space for the sub. The enclosure "dips" down into that area and also extends the entire length of the boot (under the amplifier). It's slightly undersized, but it's adequate. The LC6 is a key element and it fit perfectly in the passenger rear quarter. It is hands-down the best line level converter I've ever worked with and it's simple to set up. The system is completely noise-free, clean, sonically very accurate and balanced. If anyone has any questions about the details of the install, feel free to ask, as I'm happy to help.

Do you put anything over it to protect the sub and amp when your transporting mulch, bricks, 2X4's?

MB Quart FTW!

Love the install. I definitely think a cover would do you nicely... it'd cover up all that expensive equipment.

how's the mb shallow mount? I've been looking at those same subs...

Thanks! Doing the install myself and buying the equipment new on Ebay, I have less than $700 in the entire system. The sub sounds great. With a little more air space, I think it would sound even better. Other than some occasional bags of groceries, I don't really haul much back there. I'll design and make a cover though...just in case.

Same question.. I know that sacks of concrete and cinderblocks probably wont see there was into the back of your mini.. But I would think everyday items like groceries, personal items, gnomes and other things would be back there.. You going to put a grill to protest that?

Any pics of the box not installed? Give some details on how it was made.. My dad is great with woodworking projects and I am the car guy. So if I can show him what I am talking about we can make one for my car.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any "in-process" pics of my install. As always, I used 3/4" MDF to make the box. It measures the entire 36" length of the boot and it dips down into the tool kit area (which I removed). It's all right angles, and it was a farly easy build.

I had a quick question for 23cavsfan. I'm doing an installation of a audio control lc6 and an alpine pdx 4 channel amp. I'm not doing a sub because I don't want to loose any space in my trunk. I saw that picture there where you mount the lc6, how did you mount it? Or is it just loose there? Also I am thinking of putting the amp underneath the passenger seat since I have a foam that can be removed and there is space for just the amp. But do you have any idea where I could put the lc6 up there? If I can't find a place up there for the lc6 I am going to put it there where you did and the amp in the trunk where the toolkit is.

23cavsfan do you have hifi system in your r56? I do not and I'm doing an amp installation with the lc6 as well. I already dynamated my whole car and changed my front and rear speakers a while back. That was the irst thing I did and for those of you that think that would be enough as I've seen in some other threads, IT IS NOT! I then went ahead and dynamated the whole car to see if it would help. It tremendously helped not only with music inside the car but with road noise as well (Taking into consideration I do not have run flats in my car. If you are bothered by road noise by far that is the first thing you should consider doing) Now my questions are, how did you set the lc6 back there? Or is it loose? Also I am thinking about putting my amp which is an alpine pdx 4.100 underneath the passenger seat because there's a piece of foam I can remove down there since I don't have sat radio and the amp just fits. Now is there anywhere else you thought of putting that lc6 besides back there when you installed? What did you meant about tapping the front speakers? I bought a speaker splice loom from newministuff.com to get all the speakers leads but I am going to have to remove the radio to do that. Any suggestions? Ohh one more thing, where did you set the grounds for both, your amp and lc6?

Did you ever get a response, I too am intalling a LC6i and wondering if it's safe to tap a remote wire from the aux plug to turn on the amp and the LC6i...the LC6i does have a remote eh? All else fails grab the instructions...i'll check on that.

As for as mounting it...what did you use?

I agree with the changing of the front and rear speakers... and all work that goes into finding the right speakers and dong the job... I was underwhelmed with the new JBL GTO 329's and GTO 629's after all that work.

Did you install an amplifier to power those speakers? Do you have the premium or base system?
