My Custom Subwoofer Cabrio Trunk Install
This was done up by the installer at my local Visions Electronics. He does top notch work and it sounds excellent. This setup keeps the stock head unit and Harmon/Kardon amp/speakers and works great. I actually have to keep the amp at minimum volume and the bass turned down on my head unit so it doesn't overpower the rest of the music.
The car is actually at Visions right now getting the trim plate made up so I will post those pictures after but this is the actual sub/amp install:

The Subwoofer was about $150, the amp I already had, and the custom sub box, wires, and install to this point was about $400.
I'm not sure what the trim plate is going to cost me as it's custom fiberglass so I imagine that'll add a bit to the cost but it should look very clean.
I'll let you know the final price when I post the finished pics later.

Your installation reminds me a bit of this product:

It is rather similar to that set up. Especially with the trim plate that I have now. The biggest difference between mine and this one is that mine is a significantly larger chamber allowing for more bass and better frequency response.
The downside of that is that I lose most of my trunk.

is it hard to tap into the HK system? I have done many car audio installs but they used either internally amplified head units or aftermarket head units. It seems like wiring it would be easy since the power is right back there. Except for high lvl or low lvl inputs.
Blkkouki: I'd definitely like to see how that turned out. I wasn't feeling that ambitious myself and this way I know it's tuned to my subwoofer.
SPDinNY: It wasn't that hard. In our Cabrios, the amp is under the passenger seat. I found diagrams on the org on where to tap the wires and then pulled the seat out, tapped it, then ran the wires to my trunk. The installer took it from there.

Hey btallack
Have you managed to find the diagram as to where to tap from the amp to get the sub lines?
My apologies guys. I haven't been on the site in ages and forgot about this thread.
The sub box is as yet not entirely finished. It does have a trim plate now, but the final trim plate is yet to be complete. It will be reasonably elaborate, vinyl with a curved bezel to match the edge of the trunk, custom grill cover, and a DC outlet (since I blocked access to the rear one with the sub box.) I'm even considering getting the installer to build a power inverter in too for AC power.
I just found it again: http://www.gbmini.net/HKconnections.pdf
I tapped pins 1, 2, 3, and 4. Nice and simple.
