Help me choose a head unit!

Pioneer AVH-P6000DVD - 780 shipped new

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=19550

this one is a 7" screen, 6 dvd changer built in, no navigation.

or

Pioneer AVIC-D3X - 768 shipped new

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=18688

this one has navigation, only a single disc input, 6.1" touch screen, cd/dvd/blah blah blah.

im leaning at the AVIC, becuase the navi would be nice, although id like the 7" screen better (who wouldnt? lol)

also, a plus about the AVIC is the volume is a ****, vs the P6000DVD, which is a button (hate button volume controls)

also, the AVIC can change the button colors to amber, where as the P6000DVD is blue.

lastly, the AVIC package comes with bluetooth adapter, ipod adapter, and remote, the P6000DVD doesnt.

what do you guys/girls think? AVIC? i with the avic had a 7" screen, but oh well :(

I just got myself a Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD. I noticed that the ones you're choosing are double DIN so its going to require moving of the center console unless you plan to do otherwise. The AVH-P5000DVD is nice, single din (you've probably seen pictures of other people with the motorized flip screen) so I enjoy it very much. Plus it comes with 5 color presets so you can change the interface color as see fit. It doesn't have a nav which doesn't bother me much. You can probably get the unit for around 575 shipped. I'll post pictures when i get a chance. If you go double din though, I'd get the AVIC-D3X. A lot easier to control. Happy Motoring!

over 475$ more, no remote/ipod wire, and the buttons light up blue and wont match the interior lights :(

i like that unit, but i dont know. i think im about to order the AVIC now.

ive got a 160gb ipod classic, thats more than the 30gb Z2's hard drive, of which you can only use 10gb for music anyways, the rest is used by the navi

Please, pictures! I'm more interested to see the look after you move the center console around but I bet that D3 will look damn nice right in that spot.

yes it will, and the fact that the screen AND buttons can be set to illuminate amber to match the dash, is even better

I have my main screen set to amber too, looks great. At first I was changing it back and forth from red and amber but finally settled on amber because i got too lazy

Its not as easy as you think to move the toggle panel down. You just dont unscrew them and place them lower. A large amount of trimming needs to be done. Also You need to make new arms to control the A/C. Not to mention hacking up your downtubes. Here is a pic of mine before I finished it fully.

Since then I have had to recut the downtubes and trim the frame I made to hold the unit to make it look more flush.

Remember if you do this your gunna have to do it on your own. No shop will help you. Well atleast the ones around me.

i know, i have no problem doing this myself. i dont really like single din flip out screens, this looks alot cleaner, and yours looks great.

what im actually thinking about doing POSSIBLY at this point, instead of doing a avic D3 (or any other double din for that matter)

instead, i might do a carputer. get like an 8" screen (looks as i have the room to fit that size, i see you have some extra space around your avic.

plus, the VGA touch screen i bet wouldnt be near as much depth as an indash that has to house a dvd player.

then build the PC in the glove box is my only option, and im thinking maybe route the AC vents for your feet (under the dash) which i NEVER use, and route one line into the glove box, and some fans pulling the hot air out

this is just an idea i just thought of. we will see where it goes.

Only word of advice that I have for that is. No PC. but a Mac Mini. Its fitting.
