Navigation & Audio Bluetooth compatibility list
Pat,
See my post 491 in this thread.
The Storm works fine in my 2008 ClubmanS, with Bluetooth, no Nav. Subsequently updated my Storm OS from .65 to .75 then to Beta .109. Never a problem.
Go for it! It's a great device, but just be aware it has a heck of a learning curve with the touch and click screen. It took me about 2 weeks to get used to it.

I ened up resetting my phone and repairing it and i haven't dropped the bluetooth connection since.
Update For IPhone Capabilities
I just got the I Phone with software version 2.2.1 (5H11) and I'm bummed to report that the car radio cannot control the volume. It will not change the volume either up or down. The IPhone volume is all the way up and it's very difficult to hear. Rolling down the freeway at 70 miles an hour will make it almost impossible to hear.
Needless to say I am not very happy. But I sure like the IPhone.
If anyone has a workaround I would sure like to hear it. The spread sheet needs to be updated to reflect the latest.
Does anyone else have a different experience with this version of IPhone software. Our cars are 2009 MCS.
Thanks
Pat

Pat,
You are probably just running into one of two minor idiosyncrasies of the MINI.
1. The only time the volume on the MINI bluetooth will adjust is when someone is actually speaking to you. I.E. you can turn the volume up all day long but it will not change until you call someone and have them speak to you. I suggest calling someone and then having them just tell you a story and while they are speaking adjust the volume.
2. "Bluetooth Volume" on you iPhone is different from the ear piece/speaker volume and needs to be adjusted while the phone is again conneted and in a call. Again adjust the volume while you are having a conversaiton on the phone.
If either of these do not work let us know. These above have baffeled many people.

I tried both ways to raise the volume. As well I raised the volume to max on the aux input but that made no difference at all. I am right back where I started from. Not very pleased. I don't know what to do next but it is clear that with the software version 2.2.1 the volume does not work in the 09 cars. At least not in the two I own. Rats

Are you referring to the music volume or the call volume?
For music, the Mini receives a line-level signal through the AUX port, and doesn't actually control the volume using the iPhone from what I understand. My build is pre-USB port, so I'm basing this off my memory of other posts about volume issues. Can someone correct me if that's wrong?
I'd suspect that the phone volume is the same because when I turn the volume of a phone call up, the volume level on my Blackberry doesn't change. Perhaps the iPhone is different, maybe someone else could also confirm this?
Someone else suggested that turning the AUX volume up all the way would help the iphone volume. I suspected that it would not and I confirmed that by maxing out the AUX volume and testing.
I used to use the Motorola V3M phones and the volume control in the car for the radio controlled the phone volume just fine. It worked great as a matter of fact. Down the road at 80 mph just crank up the volume and it worked fine.
With the iPhone I keep the volume on the phone maxed out but the volume control for the radio has no effect on the call volume whatsoever. I have to attribute this to either the iPhone software or the Bluetooth software. Either way it appears I have no choice but to not make calls above the 30 mph range.
I like the iPhone and apparently will have to live with this at least for the next two years of my contract or hope that Apple comes out with new software. I hear they are working on V3.0 but there is no way to know if this will solve the problem.

It's the same in both of our cars.
I tried adjusting the volume when someone is speaking but no go. If it went up at all it was not nearly enough to be usable.
Bummed.
I still think it is a problem with the volume on the "iPhone Bluetooth Volume"
The bluetooth volume is a "seperate" volume from the 'main" volume. It can only be adjusted "While in a Call"
Here is a link to another thread where this was stated and it worked for a number of people there.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/navigation-and-audio/153592-bluetooth-volume-too-low-iphone-3g.html
Also the MINI volume for bluetooth CAN ONLY be ADJUSTED while someone is speaking to you on the phone. If they are NOT speaking the volume WILL NOT adjust.

I wish it were something else rather than the car. I have to think it is the car or the bluetooth protocol in the phone or both.

The BB Storm2 for Vzn is due out pretty soon. You might want to wait for that. Will supposedly have WiFi and not the clickscreen gizmo.
I have to believe it is BT related in the phone.
I'm pretty sure you're right. You'd think that the volume of the car "playing" the phonecall source would be independant of the phone itself, but I have a feeling it has to do with what's going on inside the phone's bt system itself. Sorry I can't be of more technical help.
The phones previous to the iPhone were the Motorola V3M. They worked perfectly in both of our cars. Two different phones same model. 2 different cars. You can crank the volume loud enough via the radio control **** that it was too loud even at freeway speeds.
I have to believe it is BT related in the phone.

Maybe somebody here with PSMini would let us test your phone in their car in one of the upcoming coffee meets/drives, or would let us pair their iPhone up to your car?
You're welcome to try my car, but if it's specific to 09's as you suspect it may not give us much to go on.
I think that would expose whether there was a configuration issue, or if there was a genuine compatibility problem.
The last time iPhone compatibility was broken with a software update, there was half a dozen posts the very next morning and 2.2.1's been out since January. I don't want to try point any fingers, but I wouldn't rule out some sort of issue that's specific to your situation just yet.
Just to throw it out there- lots of odd issues disappear with a reset of the phone. If you haven't tried that yet, maybe give it a go?
Blackberry Storm phonebook order
I've got a BB Storm and the phone book on it displays as "first name, last name". It has always been that way in the MINI as well...until this past week, when I got the car back from the dealer. They had evidently disconnected the battery as all my radio presets and the paired BB Storm were gone. Now that I've re-paired the Storm, the phone book is displayed as "last name, first name"?!? No changes on the Storm.
Any thoughts?

I may have to try the reset. I would like to have someone pair up and see what gives. It is entirely possible that it is user error. It would not be the first time. I'm new to the bluetooth thing and the cars are new as well. So who knows. I may just delete the pairing, reset the phones and try again.

There are no adapters available for the Curve however.
