The HIFI also has an upgraded amp in the back side panel of the boot.

Thanks for the info Robin. Do you know if the 10 speaker configs' A pillars have a totally different molding than the 6 config, to enclose the tweeters, or is it the same as the 6 speaker config and just cut out?
I'm asking because I'm wondering if ordering my new MCS with the Hi-Fi option will give me a more stock look after I've upgraded the speakers.
Cheers

Yes, it likely will as there is different molding on the A pillars... if you like I can get you some pictures of what mine looks like.

Look at that link... and you can see in the upper left, the stock molding for the HiFi left front tweeter...

Thanks, that was the info I was looking for. Even though I plan on upgrading the speakers, I'll probably order the car with the 10 speaker hi-fi kit anyway. If I only got the 6 speaker setup and ordered those tweeter enclosing A-pillars, by the time I'd paid for the parts and installation I bet I'd be close on to the cost of upgrading to the Hi-Fi anyway. Okay. Done deal.

stock sound 6 speaker
The stock 6 speaker sound is garbage, put the speakers underwater and turn them up, thats about how good they sound.

I have the 10 speaker Hi-Fi system and although it quickly runs out of bass as you turn the volume up (just about any system without a subwoofer will), it's quite good. Although I wasn't exactly thrilled with having to pay $550, nor do I believe it's quite worth that price, I listen to music quite a lot so the base system was a no go for me.

Its amazing the difference in opinion on the 2 systems. I never actually heard the 10 speaker upgrade and when I changed my mind and decided to get the upgrade it was to late and the car went into production early. So I knew I would have to live with it at least in the short term. IMO, the stock system sounds pretty good and at times real good. I upgraded our SUV with all new speakers and a amp because the sound seemed horrible. It cost over $1,000 dollars from Best Buy and it sounds worse than before. The mini sounds a lot better. I still would get the upgrade in the Mini and give it a chance and then decide to swap out the speakers. I think the sound is more about the head unit than speakers. Maybe a little of both.

Speakers should a the major portion of your purchase price for a stereo system as they are the most influential on how good your system will sound. The stock head unit is actually pretty good. It just needs good speakers and amps to back it up.

I heard the 6 and 10 during test drives and noticed the difference right away. Having played drums for a while I need to hear the bass drum (not overly thumpa thumpa distorted, just clean and punchy in the chest) as well as the high hat/symbols (crisp not mushy) coming through. The upgrade has worked well for me.
