Hmm - it DOES look good... provided that:
  1. You can select ANY artist and ANY song on the entire iPod (irrespective of playlists), AND
  2. It is possible to keep the map display up without it taking over the entire screen every time the song changes
Then I'll be very interested. Although the video doesn't show it completely, it does appear that #1 is solved, so I just want to see how #2 turns out. The MINI Nav does not have as many buttons as the BMW version of the same Nav, so we don't get as many hard button shortcuts, but it still looks promising!

I originally seen this on a personal mini website. It got good reviews. Can't find the link to it now. But will keep looking.

There was a fairly recent thread about this unit on MINI2 -- I even posted to it -- but I searched and that thread has apparently disappeared without a trace. The starter of the thread was using Intravee with the MINI Nav, with good results. Intravee seems to be the only current unit that integrates well with Nav. A negative is that you also need to purchase a separate bus translation box from Alpine, and someone priced out the total to around $400 (if I remember correctly). The unit seems doomed because it is much too late to market -- and officially it is still in beta development. It only holds special interest to 1st gen MINI Nav owners, so the potential market for the product is extremely small.

I deleted it as it was coming across a bit commercial and they are not MINI2 sponsors.

I am waiting to hear from Simon to that I can get one to do a little review. Still no word from him.

Total cost is about 300 USD. 100 pounds (200 USD) for the Intravee and and then 100 for the Alpine Ipod unit. The intravee is not a Ipod adapters but rather a NAV controller device. You still have to have the Alpine IPod Controller.

You can read more about it here...

www.simplymini.info I moved the post to my site made by Remmie.

The doomed part was me arguing that it is old technology and there doesn't seem to be a push to come out of Beta.

Oh, and there is no comparison between the DICE and this unit as they are no where near the same. You would be better off comparing the Alpine Ipod controller to the DICE. The Intravee will drive more than just the Alpine unit....

I've got to get my hands on this unit. I still have an Alpine XM and iPod interface from my old car. This would be perfect and save me a chunk of money.

Still no word back form Simon. I wonder if he is on holiday? I ordered the Alpine unit in advance with hopes to hear from him soon.

Tom, any progress on the DICE/nav display issue? It's been a while since we've heard any updates. You guys are still working on it correct?

It would be a shame if Intravee beat you to a nav display fix. I know they work by two different systems, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will announce that firmware update soon for the DICE....

We're been working with DICE on the fix, nothing new to report at the moment. We'll keep the DICE-specific thread updated when available.
