Navigation & Audio EZ Pass and Garmin GPS?
EZ Pass and Garmin GPS?
I searched the Nav forum and came up empty, so here goes. I just recieved delivery of my windshield mount EZ Pass for the MINI. In the EZ Pass booklet it says that if you have satalite radio (I don't) or a GPS (I do: a Garmin NUVI 660) they can interfere with a windshield mounted EZ Pass. The booklet seamed to imply issues with a factory nav system but I would think the same issue would be present on an aftermarket GPS such as my garmin. Are there any GPS/EZ Pass users out there that can shed light on this for me? I'll be needing both for this Saturday.
Have used a Nuvi 360 since the day we got the MINI. No problem with the EZ Pass on trips North, South, East, and West from Baltimore.
Have a friend who just made a trip from Baltimore to Boston and back using a 360 and EZ Pass - No problems.

There is only one way to find out...
I am pretty sure if your EZpass does not read properly they send you a notice in the mail and you verify you have an account and that is it, so extra charges. I could be wrong though, I have never had a problem with mine.

I have had problems with mine, when its battery ran low. If you go through a toll and the pass isn't read correctly, a photo is taken of your plate. Assuming your plate is registered with EZpass, they just bill you normally. The only difference is that your plate number shows up on the statement instead of the serial # of the EZpass unit. This works fine on single charge tolls, like bridges and the Garden State Parkway. But problems occur when it takes two reads, as on the NJ Turnpike, to complete a transaction. If one is associated with EZpass # and the other with plate #, then you could easily get two separate, incorrect charges.
This is true, but, in my case (NJ), they did not charge a fee for the first time.

Installed a Garmin Nuvi 350 and moved my Sunpass (Floridian for EZpass) transponder to the rear sunroof glass.. Out of the way, out of sight, and no conflict. In fact, it seems to work better mounted to the glass horizontal surface.
Thanks for the replies. I can't wait to go over the Throgs Neck without having to wait in the ONE lane for cash.

How long did it take for you to get the transponder after applying ?
I've had my EZ-Pass mounted back there since I recieved it. I also have a Nuvi 360 with no problems.
me too
you'll still wait
Why do so many people not have EZ pass? Are they all Libertarians who don't want Big Brother to track their comings and goings?
Yup. Libertarians or just regular folk (who don't like being tracked either...
)
Fastlane (Massachusetts EZ pass equiv) is a god send. I've never had issues with it mounted on the windshield while using my TomTom + PDA gps. I like the idea of putting it on the rear sunroof though for a cleaner look.
I look forward to when there is more integration between toll pass companies. Having Fastlane linked with EZ pass is great for any NYC trips.
