Craven Stubby/Super Stubby antenna

Has anyone tried these aerials. Do they give good reception?

I have a Craven stubby too. Absolutely no difference between it and stock IMO. And you can get it custom engraved with your MINI's name, or the Wings logo, or a club name

Craven rocks!

Anyone using it with an R56 MCS that has a NAV and Bluetooth Phone Integration?

Works great, don't have any trouble picking up the few stations I listen to in the North Dallas area.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. Cause the antenna is really 3 ant's in one. It's an AM/FM radio ant, it's a GPS antanna (in base), and it's also a Cell phone ant also. Questin is, is the cell phone part in the base, or is it part of the long ant that the stubbies one would be replacing. And if so, does the stubby still work good on the cell phone side???

I have Bluetooth Phone, Nav and of course AM/FM. I was wondering the same thing, but then saw for $19 + shipping and handling, I figured I'd just ordered this antenna and see. It's not like it's a permanent fixture that I can't go back to the factory one.

As soon as I have it, and have run with it for a few days, I'll report back.

I have the Craven Stubby (longer of the two), but haven't done any comparison tests yet. I have placed a call while parked, and the NAV seems to be functioning normally. When I think if it, I'll compare radio reception with the stock and the stubby.

The nav antenna is in the shark fin, not the stalk of the antenna. The stubby I got just replaced the skinny stick, not the shark fin.

Did some FM tests. Listening to a marginal station, it was difficult to tell whether there was any difference between stock antenna, stubby, and no antenna at all. With a strong station, no difference.

I would differ...

I used this on a 4000 mile roadtrip across the west recently... much worse reception using the super stubby than my normal antenna. Even in KC I can't pick up topeka stations anymore... *shrug*

I personally don't care much about FM, I never listen to FM radio. I listen to either AM (news station) only, or MP3/CD's.

So I'm only interested in AM reception and CELL phone reception when a phone is connected in the armrest.

I have gotten my stubby from Craven. It looks great in my opinion and it has resulting in only minor reception degredation.

Here's my test. In my usual commute, I always either listen to my MP3 player, a CD or a the same radio station. This radio station has only one known dead spot in Washington DC, it's the tunnel in Rock Creek Park under the National Zoo.

Out by my office (in Glen Burnie Maryland), the reception of this radio station tends to come in just a little fuzzy. Still listenable, just a little static.

With my stubby, I'm happy to report that not surpisingly, the dead spot is still there. Out by my office I noticed only minor degredation. So I'm keeping it and it get's my thumbs up. I have put my regular stock antenna in the trunk just in case I need it.

The folks at Craven were nice as well and I'm happy with them. I had originally order silver stubby, they were out of silver, so they asked me if black would be ok. I said sure. Then unfortunately, the sent me an R54 instead of an R56. They apologized for the mess up and offered an engraving if I wanted it. I sent the R54 back to them and they were quick to turn around and get me the R56. So that's cool.
