Dinner or not?

I've registered for the event and reserved a place to sleep. Question is, should I purchase the dinner? It's lasagna and a salad for $28, which is about $20 more than my local Italian restaurant. Anything else happening at this dinner that will make it worth the cost--entertainment, perhaps?

Sounds to me like the standard fun-in-the-mountains surcharge

I didn't do the dinner. I'm with you, $28 for lasagna? We can find some local joint with some local color and have some fun!!

I will come off a little biased as this is a MINI5280 event.

Saturday dinner, vendor door prizes, good company, wonderful MINIs all around.

Lots of Photo opportunities.

The food at the dinner is surprisingly good, Copper has a nice place and I believe the dinner is in the same place as last year.

If you think the dinner is limited, send a note to Jon or Rick, they are the heavy duty planners and organizers.

Edit: He is right, there is a little bit of the Mountain cost involved.

Don

Thanks, old81. I appreciate the information. Can you tell us about how many door prizes will be given out?

But wouldn't it now be $38 with the price of the dinner and a change fee?

Not sure if the present state of the economy will have an impact, but if it's even a fraction of what they had last year you will be impressed. Ralph Schomp MINI was amazingly supportive and generous, as were some of the participating vendors. Seems like there were about 8 people to a table, and there were a few tables where it seemed like every single person was walking away with something.

The organizers really do put a lot of work into making this dinner a memorable event. Well worth the expense, IMHO.

A fix?

Okay, Hubby says to sign up for it. He says he wants a blue one.

The dinner is great if you are going to MITM alone and/or are shy and don't know anyone well enough to invite yourself out to dinner with.

I didn't go to MITM last year, but I attended in 2007 and the tables were large round affairs so that you could get to know the people you motored with that day a little better.

The drawings are nice, too.

I agree! This is even despite the fact that I too would normally be shocked at the price. But, as has been said, the dinner is not padded for profit or anything... it's just, unfortunately, the cost of catered dinners in the mountains. The event is lots of fun, full of prizes, and the food is really quite excellent too!

I can help you

with that question. As already noted, there are lots of gifts and prizes. Our vendors (those present) and our sponsors (not present but still supporting) have been generous beyond imagination in the past. It is a fun event and it would be a shame to miss. Just let the folks who have been our guests before - those with experience - tell the rest of the story.

Thanks,

Jonathan

No change fee for adding items

Also, if you already registered and didn't purchase dinner(s) at that time, no worries if you changed your mind. There will be no "change fee" applied because you're merely purchasing additional dinner(s) after the fact (but before registration closes on July 26th. Your entire order (Driver/Passenger Reg., shirts, dinners) will be managed together, via PayPal accounting. Remember that July 26th is the deadline for all registrations plus shirt and dinner order. Thanks!
Rick

I too was skeptical about the dinner at our first MITM in '07, but it was a good time and we haven't missed one since. The videos/picture montage is entertaining.

We've always enjoyed the dinners.. It's more than just food you are buying, you are buying a shirtless Jonathan from MINI5280, prizes, a photo slide show, and a good way to kill time before gathering to motor up to Mt. Evans to freeze your buns off!

At last years dinner I was tagged to take pictures, I was so busy trying to get pictures of the prize winners it was worth a laugh.

I missed a few pictures, they were going so fast in pulling numbers.

We will have great prizes and if I have any standing - no shirtless Jonathan!
This is a family event after all.
Ralph Schomp and the rest of the vendors have really raised the bar on prizes and this year MINI5280 will be adding our own prizes to the mix.
If you go to the banquet for the food you will be disappointed. That said they do a good job of feeding us and the food isn't terrible. Gourmet - not but the MINI spirit in the room and the friends and sponsors make it worth the cost.
And again, MINI5280 does not make a profit on the meal.
(You did a great job of event photographer Don and I apologize for speeding through the drawings).

Who is Jonathon, and is he a hunk?

(No matter, I'm married.)

Being a guy I'm not disposed to pass judgment on hunkness or lack thereof for my fellow man. I will say that Jonathan and I share similar qualities and I have been accused of some amount of hulkiness (or was that bulkiness?).
Good thing you're married is all I will say on the matter.

a HUNK? Was that a typo "C" yes he is..... LOL

Most of the time you can't miss him. He and Rick try to run the show but not to overshadow the hard work that the other 5280 folks do to make things go as smooth as they do. Great bunch of peeps and going strong again for #4. I've been fortunate to make them all thus far and haven't seen so much as a stumble outta these guys... Well ok there was the deal with the Mt. Evans Mt. Goat shirts that didn't develope quit like we'd hoped... BUT all the $$ was returned and all was well.
As far as being a "Hunk"? Hmmm was that MITM I when he sold his shirt for charity? Yeah he was a HUNK.... LOL
Cheers JPS we'll see you on Wednesday for a beer "BIG BOY".

The perpetually persistent international orange high-visibility vest and the power megaphone will give him away every time.
