2006 Mini Cooper S John Cooper works for sale. 2006 was the last year of the supercharged engine and often referred to as the best year in Mini cooper to get. The Checkmate package is rare and is very rare to be combined with a John Cooper Works. In 2006 only 21 JCW Checkmates were registered in Europe and probably less than that were imported to the US.

I am the second owner, I bought it with 24,000 miles and it now has 64,000 miles.

It has never been in an accident or had any type of damage and has a clean title.

I put a new hydraulic engine mount in last year so probably less that 10,000 miles ago. I replaced the clutch, water pump, spark plugs, serpentine belt, rear main seal, transmission input shaft seal, transmission fluid, coolant and power steering fluid. All of the parts I used were original mini parts and fluids.

My car has a Wilwood big brake kit installed on the front. The brake kit was ordered by the original owner and installed by the dealership before the car was delivered to the original owner. I have all of the JCW brochures, JCW certificate of authenticity and all receipts and oil changes from the original owner. It comes with the rims in the pictures with continental all seasons and x-lites with Dunlop Z2 summer performance tires. $15,500 OBO

So the car has a dealer installed JCW Tuning Kit rather than the factory JCW Package (option 3AL) ... meaning no LSD?

I believe the jcw package was done at the factory and not the dealer. It is my understanding that in 2005 all JCWs were built at the factory.

or MY2006 only, the JCW Package was a $6,300 option that consisted of the entire engine upgrade 208hp (head, SC, exhaust, CAI, etc) plus JCW front brakes with RED calipers and limited slip differential. All 4 disc brakes got upgraded JCW pads, but only the front brakes were painted red unlike the 2009 factory JCW which has brakes at all 4 corners painted red.

The JCW Package REQUIRED either the Sport Package or Checkmate Package (which included everything from Sport Package and more) because both of these packages featured 17" wheels which are necessary for the bigger brakes.

Drooling offer this Checkmate JCW. It's the 2nd one I've seen in a week, which is unusual.

Using the last 7 characters of the VIN, then you can confirm the factory installed options here: http://bimmer.work

The JCW Package wasn't a factory option until November 2005.

You can verify what factory options are on your MINI by entering the last 7 of VIN here. If option 3AL isn't listed the JCW Tuning Kit was dealer installed. If option 2TA isn't listed it wasn't built with a LSD.

I looked up the VIN and I did not see either the 3AL or 2AT packages. The JCW package must have been installed at the dealer.

This was a requirement for the North American market. The JCW Package for the German market included 16" R94 (Bridge Spoke) wheels, which had enough clearance for the JCW front brakes.

Would have made more sense for the original owner to order the car with the $6,300 JCW Package (which included the LSD) and sell the (included) front JCW Sport brakes which the dealer replaced with the Wilwood BBK

When I bought it I was told that it was special ordered as a JCW Checkmate by the original owner. I know the Wilwood kit was installed before the car was delivered to the 1st owner. I thought the original brakes where sold/ kept by the dealer. The invoice shows the original wheels were sold back to the dealer.

I agree it would have made more sense to order it as a JCW from the Factory. My front bumper lower grille has a JCW badge in it. Is that a removable piece that comes with the JCW kit? I can't imagine the dealer would have had a bumper with the JCW badge color matched to space metallic blue.

A while back I remember reading something where all JCWs below a certain kit # were port built and you could track if your car was factory built or port built by your JCW #. Does this sound right to anyone?

in 2006, MINI began offering the JCW Package as a factory installed option. The package included the JCW Tuning Kit (210hp version), JCW Sport Brake kit, and mechanical limited slip differential.

By this time, MINI had already purchased the JCW brand from Michael Cooper, and completed the internalization of the brand.

You could still order the tuning kit separately, as a dealer installed accessory. That appears to be what you have on the car posted for sale here.

More details on the history of JCW kits can be found here: http://minicooper.wikia.com/wiki/JCW...Factory_Models

The kit includes two JCW badges, one to screw on the lower front grill and one to stick on the boot.

I'm not really sure if any JCW kits were installed at the port of entry. I can't imagine any dealer not wanting to collect for the 10-11 hours of labor it took to install the kit.

There were two different kits ... a 200bhp version (available April 2003) and a 210bhp version (available October 2004). One might assume that the low numbered kits were the earlier ones.

Kit S616 was installed on my May 2002 build MCS in July 2003 with 8K on the clock, but it was upgraded (JCW airbox and 380cc injectors plus remap) in November 2004.

The JCW badges that came with my kit are still in a parts box because ...

Thank you for the kind words. It is a great car and a blast to drive. It is just time for me to get something larger.

Original post has been updated and cleaned up to make it more clear what options the car has. I rushed my original post and realized there were a few options stated multiple times.
