MTTS leg 1 Monterey to Santa Barbara (tour warning)

There is one thing that's on the coast that several of us might want to see, Hearst Castle. It's listed on the Points of Interest for the leg. If you want to see it and take a tour you need reservations. You can get them on-line at http://www.hearstcastle.org/tours/index.asp. It's about a 2 hour drive from Monterey so you can pick your tour time accordingly. There were lots of slots open but with 700 plus Minis going down the coast more than a few should/would want to see it. My friends have told me that it is possible to sell out. It's actually in the mountains not visible from the road.

PS. If you're a local to one of the legs and you know something special let us know. It's the journey not the destination. Like reservations to see something or something of interest near the route. This will be one of the first times that I've traveled with the must meet deadline so; if it's a special landmark that usually gets missed by outsiders I'd like to know about it.

Cheers

The tours are about 2 hours in length. It's too bad they wont' let you drive your MINI up to the 'house' as it would be an awesome 5 mile motor.

Hey all you guys...

A word of note to all of you who would like to check out Hearst Castle. I would highly recommend setting up your reservations prior to getting there on Monday. The place is often busy from just regular tourist traffic. i couldn't imagine what it would be like ona day like MTTS Leg 1.

Here is a link to the reservation page:

Hearst Castle Reservations

And to those of you ho have never been. You should really try and check it out. I went last year, and found it to be incredible. Here are some pics I took on that trip.

Enjoy!!!!
