Purchased red mirror covers from mini but decided to change them. Mirror covers are not scratched or broken. I'm located in north jersey ( $ 140 for left & right covers

MINI changes the external mirror design for 2020. So, I believe your presumption is correct.

I did check further and they would for sure not fit the 2020 design. They are now slightly larger and flatter on top.
