Rear side window doesn't follow groove in seal, gets stuck
Hey all-
2006 convertible. The rear driver's side window doesn't get into the 'groove' in the seal as it's going up, then ends up getting stuck. It's staying on the OUT side of the seal rather than sliding up the groove. It looks like there's a little bit of a guide on the bottom of the seal that has weakened over time and allows the window to just stay outside of the groove. BUT... the window is outside of the groove by about 3/4 of an inch, so I'm hoping that there's some way I can adjust it to fit in the groove.
I recently did the regulator on the passenger side rear window but I don't remember there being any sort of way to adjust the window in/out... only side to side. If I push on the top of the window while it's going up it works fine, so no regulator issue here (yet).
I pulled this apart today and found two things:
1-the window is absolutely adjustable in and out... there's two 10mm bolts right on the top that allows this. (this didn't fix it in my case)
2-Where the glass mounts to the metal window regulator there's supposed to be a plastic piece that creates a gap and allows it to slide up and down the groove... one of mine was missing (probably disintegrated) and allowed the window to move away from the bracket... towards the outside of the car, causing the issue. I went through my junk drawer and was able to put together some nonsense that seems to be working but it will probably break again sometime. A 3d printer would have come in handy here.
